Another BO issue

Ok so I posted earlier about a hiss in my B pu when I did a swap and drop from EMG's. The conclusion was B pu needs grounding per SD as the EMG's were internally grounded. Took it to the tech, grounded bridge hiss still there, swapped neck with bridge, hiss followed w/ pu. I would assume the B pu is faulty? Another funny thing too, was he did a resistance test and the N pu was hotter than the B pu.

Re: Another BO issue

bump for some help, I need to know if these have to go back. All the wiring checks out by the tech, so I had him pull him, drop the EMGs back in and hook up the 18v mod in the meantime. Thank You

Re: Another BO issue

It would help if you listed what pickups you are putting in the guitar. What amp are you using with what settings, if you are using a lot of gain there will be some hiss. Check to make sure it is not your cables. The cavity might need to be shielded. It could be a bunch of things but we need more info to determine exactly what it is.

There is clearly something wrong here. First of all, I plugged a blackout into my emg quick connect and there was absolutely no noise. I'm not sure if the blackout is internally grounded like the emg but I definitely didn't need to do anything with the blackout wire, I just wrapped it up and stuck it in the cavity. The noise + lower output than neck pickup probably = defective. This may be a blessing in disguise as the emgs with 18v are better than blackouts imho.

Thank You for the help and that was mine and the tech's assumption was a bad pup, and if the 18v mod proves to be better then I will just get a refund. Thank You again.

Re: Another BO issue

If you bought the blackout new you won't have any trouble at all returning it for another one, if Frank chimed in here I'm sure he'd tell you to call in and they'll take care of it. The reason I prefer the emgs is that they are very capable of clean sounds with the 18v mod and the 81 has a harsh brutal attack, the blackout was rich, but the attack was soft. There are no cleans to speak of with blackouts. Blackouts do have the most bad-ass harmonics you can ever get though.

Frank, thanks for the info and help. And I did call and they are gonna go back for an exchange. I never did get to try them so, I am gonna run the 18v 81/60 for now and then see if the exchanged BO's work this time and let my ears be the judge.
