WOW, those ****ers. Bought a NEW 59 bassman RI ltd. for christmas, and it had a bad solder joint er something; I returned it. Drove 45 minutes to another GC to pick up one that was "new, and under the riser" Took the cover off, and there was a huge dent on the edge of the amp, I said whatever....looked kinda cool anyways. So i plug in, and the ****ing thing crackles when I play to hard (volume is at 4 too) It's like a huge crackle that takes over the whole sound.

Man am i ****in pissed. I guess I'll return it and try not to shop there again. It's just that it and sam ash are the only stores around, and GC is better.

Make'em call Fender and order a new one. For as much as they cost new, they have to do it. If not, the angry screamer in the middle of GC gets what he wants cause it scares potential buyers and the manager doesn't want that....does he? he he he

How are you with a soldering iron? You can buld your own Bassman 4x10 kit for less than a grand.

hah not too handy, just enough to work inside a guitar a little bit.....

I called GC and the manager said he was gunna call and order another, so we'll see.

Re: Another GC hate thread, Sorry

the sad thing is GC is the best place around here... The samash at ontario mills is the worst, everything's broken. They don't seem to carry any quality brands, barely any ibanez or gibsons or fenders, lots of Brownsvillles and Jay tursers, hardly any epiphones even. All with their knobs ripped off and dents.

There's a local music store, but it has a TINY inventory of strings and whatnot, and as for guitars they only carry these really cheap chinese things, made entirely out of maple, superbright and hit or miss quality. I almost picked up a black beauty les paul copy they had (because it was less than 200 bucks) but decided upgrading my Schecter was a better idea than buying a fairly poor guitar. Their telecaster wasn't bad actually... might pick that up, even has a fender style headstock:)

So guitar center it is. They're slightly less poor than either of those. At least they have selection... I miss my old guitar store in Sacramento...:(

IIRC, Fender actually has full-time techs at GC's distribution depot in Indiana 'cause so much stuff gets beat up en route.

I went in that store once, I wondered how they sold anything. I didn't find a single good guitar that didn't have some kind of store rash, and when I found an amp I was interested in, they came around and took up all the demo cords so no one could play anything. Their reason was, "it's getting kind of loud." It was nowhere near as loud as most GC 's I've been in.

With Guitar Center, I've found, you need to find one of the few guys that know what they are doing, and build a relationship with them. Always call and see if they are in before you go, and only buy from them. They get paid by comission, so if they know you'll come back and get stuff from them, they'll give you better service. It also helps if they are a higher up like a dept manager or something. You can check with local pro players, and see if they recommend anyone there.

Re: Another GC hate thread, Sorry

If you think about it, it's not really GC's fault that the amps were malfunctioning, right? If you can get new stuff out of the back, still in the box, you've got a better chance.

Re: Another GC hate thread, Sorry

see what they do,, and if they don't fix the problem then you can be the screamer in the middle of the store. then they will fix it right away.

I always have fun with the guys at guitar center, they usually don't have a clue. every once in a while i can find someone who will be cool and either admit that they know nothing up front or i find someone who really knows guitars. I have been lucky like that.

I really do hope that it all works out for you though, i really loved the bassman ltd i plugged into the other day, just too big and loud for my apt.

Re: Another GC hate thread, Sorry

I'm not a fan of GC by any means, but I've also been hearing a lot of malfunctioning new Fender amp stories lately. I'd question Fenders QC department as well as GC's store managers.

Re: Another GC hate thread, Sorry

This sounds like a testament to the quality of Fender products nowadays more than a slam on GC.

Re: Another GC hate thread, Sorry

Yay for GC skepticism!!

I worked at Guitar Center for a while, and I share some of your frustration, but this is the sort of problem that GC will fix for you no problem... if you make a issue of it. It looks like it'd be worth your while to do so, as well. Even though GC is astonishingly corporate, they hold their customer's satisfaction above everything else. After all, customers give them money. No customers, no money. If you're not satisfied, they'll do everything in your power to make you satisfied. Play their system, and you'll come out on top. Don't be afraid to make a fuss, you're not bothering anyone. MAKE THE LITTLE PIGGIES DANCE!!!
