Another Jackson for me

Ain't nothing poor about that- Ill bet with a proper setup it plays better than my 1989 USA Soloist

+1
If it plays good and you can reach the 24th fret and the frets are leveled right then yea wit a proper set up thing will play like butter. If thats a real original Floyd then thats even better and maybe swap out the pups.

Re: Another Jackson for me

Its a Floyd Rose Special, not an OFR. Pickups are getting swapped for Invaders.

Re: Another Jackson for me

i have always loved those. Of all the guitars that have come and gone, I miss my jackson the most.

Re: Another Jackson for me

I have no need to swap out the Floyd, not yet anyway. Besides, I'm 2 days from getting stung with a dental bill and I'm trying to save up for a mic preamp w/digital out.

Don't worry. If you decide you want to do something with the Floyd, there will be time later. For now, you've got a really solid guitar that you can get a lot of enjoyment out of.

Not impossible, but I`ll believe that the day I see it. I havent`t seen a japanese Jackson that can compare to my Pre 1990 USAs by any stretch of the imagination, the sole exception being the 1990-1995 Professional series. The current stuff just cant touch it, even most current USA Selects can`t match them...

Ive never tried the special only ever played a original but from what ive hear they have great stability. If you want to upgrade your trem you might wanna check out www.floydupgrades.com

There is nothing on that site that is of equal or higher quality to what is already installed on the instrument, with the possible exception of the big blocks and Titanium saddles.

IMO that site is only good for actual upgrades if you have a POS licensed trem like a TRS or a chinese Schaller Copy. Anything current that is Floyd Rose branded (OFR, FR Special / OEM FRT-1000/2000) is already a significant step up. Their "own" branded trems look intrerestingly enough much more similar to said TRS trems than an OFR or Gotoh, but cost 100$ more than an OFR because they have a 40$ big block already installed... Hmmmm....

And yet people wonder why I don´t trust that site...

Re: Another Jackson for me

If I were to swap floyds, it wouldn't be one of those from that link. I'd sooner get the real deal German OFR. For now, the FR Special works for me. Until I break it, it stays as is.

Re: Another Jackson for me

When did they put specials in them? I thought they all came with the JT580/LP.

It´s been quite a few years, actually..... When did the first USA Charvel reissues start coming off the line? 5 years ago or so? In the same breath they upgraded all the pro /mg series floyds to the Special, and also started using real duncans. I think the DK-2M was the first "new" production guitar to have both original Duncans and the OFR Special as factory equipment....

Re: Another Jackson for me

^^ I think you´re right on that, it was the first to come with the "upgraded" trem, which they used for 1 or 2 years I think before the FR Special became standard, something along those lines.

Re: Another Jackson for me

Isn't there a couple different versions of the JT580LP too? I have a Takeuchi from a 90 Kelly, doesn't seem to be the POS that I remember the 580LP to be on some other Jacksons. Def better than the LO-TRS II or whatver it was on the M-350 I had.

I replaced the Kelly trem with an OFR, I'm gonna use the 580 in a Dinky I'm working on.

Re: Another Jackson for me

NOt really...

IIRC there was the original 580 which still had a whale tail from the mid to late 80s and seems to pop up every so often all the way to the 2000s (identical to a TRS-101 /ST-101 /W-200 /etc.) and made on the same machines by the same people at Takeuchi), the "original" 580LP from the late 80s to early 2000s (identical to a lo-pro TRS-II /... , exact same deal as with the other one), and the last 1 or 2 years of 580LP had the aformentioned baseplate but otherwise blahblahyaddayadda.

The 590 was a standard german made Schaller used primarily in the early to mid 90s, in case that`s part of the confusion ;)
