another overdrive question

ive been looking for a pedal to push my dsl50 to a raw sweet spot. a really really really really good sounding overdrive pedal that doesnt kill my tone or alter it, unless its in a good way. my boss blues driver is pretty good, but it at some points it either sounds too stale or too fat and fuzzy. really metallic-like, which i dont like. i really love the Henry Garza's tone on the los lonely boys album, particular the wah solos on 'crazy dream', and i also like pearl jam's 'yellow ledbetter' solo. im not really lookin on goin over $150. some pedals ive been checkin out are the maxon od-9, fulltone fulldrive 2 and the OCD, and the thunder tomate pedals, but im open to suggestions.

I can't do anything but recommend the Smart People Factory Green Line. Little known gem of a pedal from a little known company. Excellent boutique quality, and I recently got one to push my DSL50 - works a total treat! Makes the overall sustain smoother and sweeter, and it can also be used as a totally transparent boost. It might be a little over your budget, but you might be able to get one 2nd hand on ebay.

Check out the pedal here (check out the Ego Booster too!).

Oh, and first post here :)

Re: another overdrive question

the $150 limit puts a damper on things, but you might be able to find some of these used:

Maxon OD820... you'd probably want to use the boost more than the drive,
works at 18 volts, more headroom than the TS-9
Lovepedal Eternity... awesome! if you're using a lot of gain, then turn the
Eternity volume full up, gain off (or close to it) and treble boost up to
about 10 o'clock... INCREDIBLE!
Lovepedal Twin 60... 2 mosfet boost's in one... clean and silky
Hermida Mosferatu
Pro Analog Dual Drive

That would be my short list for overdrives pushing a high gain amp.

I'd probably find a used Fulltone OCD. Or, if you can find a good music store that has a bunch of pedals, listen to all of them on whatever Marshall they have in the store and see which one pushes the tone in the direction you like.

Sometimes, you have to buy and sell OD pedals for awhile till you stumble on something that is IT.
