I have two teles. One with a SD 5-2 (rosewood neck) and the other with a SD Broadcaster (maple neck)
I play use a Dr Z Stangray amp. (Think pre topboost AC30)
I have discovered the Broadcaster pickup was WAY too bright for me. This is when I compared it to the 5-2. So I ordered another 5-2 for the second tele. Musicians Friend is backordered, so in the meantime, I installed another pickup I had laying around. I don't even know what it is. (probably some non-USA stock Fender)
It's fantastic!!! It makes the 5-2 sound so nasal. It's hotter (which is both good and bad), and there's a lot more lower mids. Which is something I like. (The Stangray has recessed mids)
So I'm now wondering is there a SD pickup that gives more lower mids and slightly hotter than a 5-2?
Jerry Donahue model? On the tone chart, it says it's a moderate output, but on the description page, it says high output.
Since the Stangray has a bit of recessed mids, I'm concerned an Alnico II pro would not be a good choice.
Any suggestions?
