another recommend a pickup thread

I have a Strat with a Custom in the bridge,1 500k volume no tone, that I play through a warm tube amp with pedals. The issue is that while the Custom is fun with its high output and screaming harmonics, the bass is just way too much, boomy and huge. The treble is very crispy even a little metallic. I keep this guitar tuned down 1/2 step and play a lot of EVH type stuff though Im not especially trying to clone that sound. I have concerns that the 78 might not feel powerful enough.
Perpetual Burn,Custom Custom,78,magnet swap? Help a bro out.

How do you define "power"?

The 78 has a voicing that makes it louder that what people think by looking at specs. It also has more character (to my ears) than the PB.

For something a little less expensive, maybe try an UOA5 in the CC.

Other options include tweaking any tone controls on the pedals and/or the amp.

Thanks
Powerful compared to my other guitars,LP with 500t and RG with Super D
. I've exhausted my tweaking options with this pickup because it has massive bass AND searing highs makes it difficult to dial in.

I can get the low end, but I didn't find the CC to have highs that extreme...in a maple neck-thru with alder wings and ebony board. Someone like Blueman would have better mag options.

If you like the overall tone of the Custom but want less thundering lows and less high end, try it with an A2 magnet. That's the Custom Custom and it is a great pick up.

ah! my bad. I was reading via mobile. yes, if you have a Custom and are having those problems an A2 for CC could be an option. the UOA5 might be a good in-between option.
