Another string gauge question

My 3 electric guitars i have are all 25 inch scale, with floyd roses. Right now i have 2 guitars in E Standard, with 9-46 strings on, and i really like the tension. The other one i have in E Flat, with 10-48 strings on, and the higher strings maybe feels a little too tight. I plan to set one guitar in D Standard, and the other one in C Standard. So i am torn between 10-52, or 11-52 for D, and 11-54 or 12-56 for C. I like to have the bottom strings a bit heavier for riffs, and the high strings a little loose for bends. And i don't drop the bottom 6th string very often, just ocasionally.. Which sets do you guys think, will give me the same tension as 9-46 in E? Thanks for suggestions.

Put in your current gauge, scale and tuning. Then enter your new tuning and it will tell you the new gauge that will keep the same tension. From my experience, each half step down requires .0005 increase in the high E set. So 9’s in E are similar to 10’s in D and 11’s in C.

Re: Another string gauge question

I don't know how to use this. It only changes tension, not gauge. But, thanks for information about increase of high e set. I think i'll go 10-50 for D and 11-54 for C.

Re: Another string gauge question

I've tried everything out there at one time or another. D'Addario 9.5's are my favorite all-round strings.

Re: Another string gauge question

Eb
9.5-48

D
10-52

C
11-56/11-58

I prefer for Eb
10-50 (w/ 18w for 3rd)

D
10.5-52 (w/ 20w)

C#
11-54/56 (w/22w)

Thanks for suggestions. I think i am gonna try Daddario XL 10-52 for one guitar in D, and leave other 2 in E. 10's feels too heavy in E Flat for me, so they gonna feel lighter half step down.

Re: Another string gauge question

I once tried 11-52's in d on one of my guitar, and the bottom was ok, but high strings too heavy. i am gonna go with 10-52 or even 10-50 for D. I decided i will not go lower than Standard D.

Re: Another string gauge question

The Dunlop Heavy Cores are good if you want tighter wound strings!

Re: Another string gauge question

I can't help you much cause I'm all over the place.
With my 3 x 25.5" scale guitars...

1 in C#G#C#F#A#D# with 10-46
1 in CGCFAD with 10-52
1 in CGCFAD with 12-54

To me, certain guitars just feel better with certain gauges, even if they share the same scale length and tuning.:dunno:

Re: Another string gauge question

I just setted up my LTD in standard c# today with beefy slinkys (11-54). It needed a little adjustments, but nothing drastic. even the intonation is fine. high 3 strings feels a little heavier, but i think i am gonna get used to it. on bottom strings is a little less tension, but it's playable. i am surprised that guitar is even working better now, the screws on the backplate are perfectly aligned.

Neck profile can be one reason for this.
I've also gravitated towards certain setups based on the guitar's inherent "feel" and how it combines with my usual scale/tuning/tension preferences.
