Re: Another stupid question: Re jazzmaster
The mute is actually a bit of a complicated process... Or else I'd have one on the Jag. It's not impossible to add one.
You need to drill a hole in the body I think 3/8" deep... but don't quote me... You put the spring and plunger in there, and put the mute on top of that... (available at guitarpartsresource.com)
There are two issues with the mute:
1.)you'll need to raise the bridge to install it, higher than is necessary for my favorite kind of setup. You'll probably need to shim the neck.
2.)it raises the pitch about a quarter step when in use :smack: to alleviate this, tune your guitar to pitch with the tremlock on (if you have a tremlock on your jag tailpiece... which unless it's an aftermarket it should have), and adjust it so that when you put the mute on and take the tremlock off, it's in pitch

Just hope you don't have to do too many trem upbends
Oh yeah. All those gizmos they put on these guitars rock

But I'd never do it to my Jag. I hate drills.
*Cream was mistaking the admittedly gratuitous bridge cover on my stang for a mute, hence the delete
