Another "superb" shipment by USPS

Check out what I received in the mail about 2 weeks ago. Claim is in process. Going to have to wait another good month or two before this gets played.

Re: Another "superb" shipment by USPS

Well enough to survive the trip. My luthier thinks it was stored somewhere hot and when it got something thrown onto it, it broke the lower bout.

The neck came clean off. It was shipped without a case or gig bag, but it should hsve been okay without the box damage. The damage is where the lower bout was at.

Looks sturdy enough. I had a guitar sent from Kentucky to Sydney packed like this...

And that's how it arrived. It also had a lid, but it was just as flimsy as the rest of the box.

Hopefully you get the satisfaction you're looking for in regards to reimbursement or repairs.

Breaks look TOO CLEAN.

Glue lines that came apart under extreme heat or something?

Mighta been a scammy seller that shipped it pre-broken

Re: Another "superb" shipment by USPS

It was wrapped in multiple layers of bubble wrap and packing paper. The break is very clean, I agree. Which is why the high temp storage makes sense. Even the lower bout break is clean. My luthier suspected it being a joint, but the body is a two piece white limba body. I'm keeping the guitar, just trying to get some reimbursement on it now.

This arrived all the way from Switzerland to Australia in two cardboard cartons. [ 10.000 miles approx. ]

I can't find the pics of the cartons but the outer one had a half inch tear and all was completely intact.

Re: Another "superb" shipment by USPS

Fwiw that's actually a very nice clean break and it could be repaired and blended back in rather easily in my opinion. Definitely sucks because those guitars are kinda hard to find actually. What year is that one?

Re: Another "superb" shipment by USPS

^^I have to agree with this.

But the real question on my mind is what do you plan on doing with it? Keep it somewhat vintage correct or try and hot rod it?

Don't think so. Had 2 different very rare Pointy Carvins sent from California to Alabama by USPS the same way and both arrived with out so much as a scratch on even the case much less the guitars. With both the seller did the same thing, strip of Duct tape around the cases to hold the latches shut slapped a label on them and dropped them in the Mail no box. Both arrived intact so---. On the other hand Fed X in particular has torn up so much stuff to and from me I think those bozos could break a steel ball with a rubber hammer in a sandbox!!
Worst was the Fender Prosonic combo they dropped off the side of a conveyor at O'Hare swept up and re-boxed the carnage then sent it on.

Dude that's an amazing break and I don't mean that sarcastically in any way whatsoever. That's more so it just having old glue, plus from the finish checking (sp) it's had a hard life with drastic temperature fluctuations so wouldn't surprise me if the wood was dry as well.

Sucks shipping during the winter season because of all that especially with older guitars.

That finish looks rather thin also, so it could be stripped rather easily, or left alone and blended in (or not) and just rock it like that. Another good thing is that you'll have fresh glue which will last the rest of your life.

Re: Another "superb" shipment by USPS

No, I know how fortunate I am. Given the value of the build, USPS is lucky I'm not asking for the full amount. Even then, my luthier only quoted the repairs for glueing it back at about $150. The only thing that got them was the refin. The guitar is super light too, I wonder if that had something to do with it. It's going to be about 5-6 pounds once built.

Re: Another "superb" shipment by USPS

Yea could very well be weaker structurally because of the grain and lighter wood so yea I'd agree with that.

I never noticed the rosewood neck until after you said that. Shoulda known then and there it was a custom build. hahaha oh well... I also agree with keeping it and having it fixed up. Also have whoever does the repair level the frets as well cause I'm sure they got tweaked from that carnage and some are likely to be slightly unseated.
Ebony boards are awesome btw

Re: Another "superb" shipment by USPS

United Shipper of Pieces and shards...
Sorry to hear your troubles.... At least the neck can be fixed.. I had DHL beat a guitar to pieces that was shipped to me fromjust a couple states over...
AND.. Ive also had a couple of guitars shipped to me in nothing but an unlocked hardshell case with tape around it that arrive fine from other carriers... My heart about stopped when they dropped off the guitar in just the case...

Re: Another "superb" shipment by USPS

that super sucks. Nothing worse that rushing home to see the new prize you bought only to find it in shambles.

on a side note however that is going to be an awesome guitar when you are finished. Cant wait to see it.
