Its havent been able to get a clear answer:: are the duncan antiquity firebirds (I & II), in fact made with the same style of construction as the original 63'-65'?? Ive read everything i could! I know their not alnico magnets! But is that only part of the reason every body hates them??

welcome to the forum!

i havent pulled my antiquity II fb pup apart but im 99% sure its two alnico V bars just like the old ones. the sm1 i believe is similar construction. the sm2 and sm3 are blades with a single magnet. who hates the antiquity firebird pups!?!? they sound freakin amazing!

I know a lot of people hate on the modern Gibson ones, because they are hot and nothing like the originals.

But equally people might hate the original design simply because it is a way more Fender oriented tone than most Gibson buyers would like. But its not the Duncan specifically that is the target.

Richbintempe, I'm sorry you're surrounded by so much hate...

I'm guessing 'everybody' is 2-3 people from school?

My Antiquities made my Firebird a player. Sounds like a famous record now. I won't be taking these out. Maybe the haters have no idea what an original Firebird sounds like?

Don't conflate the Antiquity set with the "S-Brand" Firebird set; the S/non-antiquity Firebird pickups are the non-vintage bar magnet set.

I'm interested too. So what is the best SD Firebird set at the moment? Say for blues a'la Moore, classic hard rock sounds. Thank you.

the best will be different for everyone. the antiquity II firebird pups are great and sound like an old firebird, bright and punchy. for a hot over the top firebird tone id go with the sm3 neck and sm2 bridge. the sm3 bridge is hotter than a vintage model and has a little more beef but isnt overly hot

Thanks for replying. Both your suggestions seem very interesting. The problem is, I can't find, for the love of me, anyone selling the antiquities here in Europe at a reasonable price. Are they so difficult to find? Crazy.
