Does anyone know what type of magnet wire the Ant II Surfer Strat pickups are wound with? Just curious. Thanks.

Same gauge and insulation type as vintage style strats I believe.....42 heavy formvar I think (just plucking a name out of the head).

Some vintage strat pickups were plain enamel... depends on if you are talking 50's or 60's The surfers are probably 1 of the 2 but without seeing them wouldnt know which one.

Re: Antiquity II Surfer Wire Type?

I'm pretty sure the custom bridge is 43 gauge do to its almost 10K DC resistance. I'd guess it's enamel wire for the set because of the gray bottoms. That would be in keeping with the latter 60's, but I don't really know. That's why I'm asking. Thanks!

Re: Antiquity II Surfer Wire Type?

The custom bridge for sure has 43ga......for either of the Ant sets. I think the grey vs black bottom is the way the surfer vs texas hot is distinguished. Neither is a late 60's style wind really.

Re: Antiquity II Surfer Wire Type?

all the antiquity strat pups are formvar. the normal and rw/rp are #42. the texas hots are great pups but fender didnt use alnico II magnets. the antiquity II surfers are very close to a early 60's strat pup

duncan? the twangbanger is #42 pe and the custom shop makes some as well. fender makes the 69
