Antiquity JB2 or JB UOA5 for Mahogany Body Maple Top. Anyone Have or Tried?

OK, thinking of Antiquity JB2 or JBUOA5 for a PRS Custom 24. Neck could be a Jazz with the same magnet. A5, by all accounts, is a bit harsh for the tone wood. Love my Antiquities in my LP and looking for something with a bit more bite.

I love the UOA5 in the JB.

I have it in a mahogany body set neck Shecter Blackjack. Don't think it has a cap on it. It's paired with an A4 59n. And it's tuned to C standard. More mids, but not so much as an A2.

I like my stock Ant JB in my mahogany tele .

I had a vintage JB2 in my LP Studio for a while. Sounded excellent but it was dark on top. Like the tone permanently rolled down to 6-7.

JB2 will have more mids? Roughcast A2? Just hearing these are tough in the PRS with the high end and looking for a JB so aged it has stronger mids.

My JB2 doesn't have more mids, it has rolled off treble. It's a beautiful sounding humbucker, very produced sound, one of the best humbuckers I have. The only reason I took it out is with the treble roll off, there are times I would need that treble and couldn't get it just off the guitar. Some might hear that rolled off treble as more mids, all things being relative. But that's not what it sounded like to me. But also my JB2 is very old production, possibly from Seymour-winding-JB days (no winder initial label). My newer production JB as-is exhibits a mid hump that my older ones don't have. That might also be a consideration. The more-mid bump could be inherent in the pickup regardless of the mag and changing mags accentuates it.

While I am not a big fan of any magnet on a JB, an Alnico II Pro sounds great with it, for a smoother, rounder tone (the combination in my Brian Moore).

Try a RC A8 in the JB then. It doesn't smother the tone like A2 but it keeps the JB's definition while smoothing and rounding it out a ton.

The Studio is a much warmer sounding guitar than the PRS. I would expect it to sound "dark on top" with a JB2. But the JB2 may be perfect for what he wants in his PRS.

I haven't personally tried an A8 in the JB, but from my experience with other mags in it I would expect that the JB8 would be great

I have a Schecter C1 that's on the bright side. I tried the UOA5 to tame it and was very underwhelmed at how weak it was overall. I swapped it for an RCA5 and have had better results. I can't comment on the A2.

While I'm satisfied with the RCA5 at the moment, I really want to try this. I've got A8s in darker guitars and love what it does.

I wanted to thank everyone for their input. I made a final decision and ordered from the Custom Shop an Antiquity '59 Neck with an A4 and an Antiquity JB with a UOA5. I think it will sound awesome in the PRS CU24 which is going to a 3 way switch instead of the 5 way.
