Antiquity Question

Before I post a full review of the Antiquity I's in my Clapton Strat, I need to ask an important question. Is it vital to get the pickup heights absolutely correct before the pickups will truly shine? I know that there was a lot of banter on the old Forum about the heights of the Antiquities. Please elaborate if you have any input.

Thanks in advance!

Very Best Regards,

Re: Antiquity Question

Yes the distance from the strings makes a HUGE difference in tone.

Closer = more volume and more treble.

To close = terrible tone because the magnetic polepieces pull the wound strings out of tune above the 12th fret.

With the strings held down at the highest fret, about 1/8" away on the bass side and about 3/32" away on the treble works well as a starting point.

If you get out of tune sounds from the low E above the 12th fret, move the bass side of the middle pickup 3/16" away. It can be set a little further away than the neck pickup.
