Antiquity vs Seth Lover

Anyone have experience with both these PU set's that can give me a good comparison? I have the Seth Lovers & absolutely love the Neck PU in my Les Paul Standard. Found the Bridge not too bad but a tad thin/weak for my tastes. Ended up with a Custom Custom paired with the Seth neck & it's a wonderful combo. Curious about the Antiquity Humbucker set & how they compare.

Cheers

Re: Antiquity vs Seth Lover

I my opinion they do about the same thing, but the Ants do more of it. I sold my Seths over it.

The only complaint I have about the Ants is that the bridge is a little overwound, IMHO.

However, that might mean it is exactly what you need.

Re: Antiquity vs Seth Lover

I actually find them fairly different in various ways but let's just say this...if you found the Seth thin the Ants are not what you want at all...

Re: Antiquity vs Seth Lover

Thanks for the replies.

Mcearlock, like I said earlier, I have the Seth neck & Custom Custom in my Les Paul & really love them together! The Seth Neck works really well in the LP. Very Articulate yet woody. The Seth bridge wasn't too bad but I prefer the Custom Custom.

In my LP I've had Burstbucker Pro's, Wolfetone DR V's, JB/Jazz, Pearly Gates/Jazz, Seth/Seth & my fav, Custom Custom/Seth. I'm a bit of a SD junkie & would like to try all their vintage types. I think I'm set for the LP but I'm messing with my EDS 1275 at the moment. Of course it's a totally different guitar but PU's certainly have their flavors that come out in any guitar they go in. ;-)

Re: Antiquity vs Seth Lover

To my ears, the Seths are louder than the Antiquity set, but have a bit of a nasal sound which I can't dial out... While I loved the Antiquities in both my LP and semi-hollow, the bridge Seth seems too aggressive in a semi-hollow.

Re: Antiquity vs Seth Lover

Hi, im currently using an SethN with a A5 in my LP together with a BroBucker. In my semi ES335 i use a Ant set with a full charged A2 in the Bridge, which makes it fuller. Both have all pots CTS 500k.
Both set combo were developed over 3 years and are my favs now.

Re: Antiquity vs Seth Lover

hey what nice incident this thread. So dont need start a new one...
SETH neck and WCR darkburst bridge in LP:
I just installed the WCR Darkburst Bridge zebra together with the SethNeck Zebra in my LP Standard.
Before I had PGNeck in the LP and the SethN was in the Duesenberg Starplayder Neck slot.
What a difference !!!!!!!!!!!! the Seth N has a crisp and singing heighs again.
very like the PG BUT more smooth in overdrive and sustain what never ends.
You cd get addicted absolutly :1:
The WCR Darkburst bridge is the best PU I ever had. DOT.
And I had a lot of SDs, well tonal heaven now. :approve:
the goodwood was to fat -

now I will put the PG neck in the duesy neck slot - the bridge is a SD 59BJ old
this is also singer thanks Marciella:).

Re: Antiquity vs Seth Lover

I took the advice of uOpt and put an ANT in the bridge of my Edwards LP
to go with the Seth in the neck. It's a great combination, I love it !

Just bought a set of ANT's to go in a LP Traditional. I can't wait to get
them installed.

I'm a huge fan of the Seth's, but I was mighty impressed with the ANT, enough to try a full set in the Traditional.

Re: Antiquity vs Seth Lover

I'm wondering how well Seth's work for that Jimmy Page live middle position quacking tone?

Re: Antiquity vs Seth Lover

to al112987 : I can say in middle pos they are great, in the duesenberg this iwas with 59bj realy chimey and quacky one real A+.

to sady7239: the Ant bridge was for too weak here, a full gaussed A2 mag, better A5 mag is for me obligate for a LP

and I am on the vintage way to play.

Re: Antiquity vs Seth Lover

I love the seths and antiquities both and think of them as perfect vintage paf platforms for magnet swaps. Changing out the A2 for A4 or A5 makes these completely different pickups. I can not believe that SD has not offered these with A4 or A5 optional.

Re: Antiquity vs Seth Lover

How about a seth bridge in the neck slot?

I'm currently running a Seth Lover Bridge in the neck position and I find it a bit muddy. I am in the process of adjusting the height to try and brighten it up. Last resort will be to pull the cover.

Re: Antiquity vs Seth Lover

I have had both Seths and Antiquities in a Les Paul. To my ears the Seths had a little more output and a little more top end. I didn't get along with the Antiquity bridge - I wanted more output. Overall I preferred the Seths over the Ants, but I prefer a Pearly Gates set over either. The PGs are a great set that will cover pretty much anything you'd want to do with a Les Paul.

EDIT: Re-reading the original post, if you find the Seth bridge too weak/thin you definitely don't want an Antiquity bridge! A '59 bridge, whilst pretty bright, has a lot more beef. Other than that consider the PG or one of the Customs.

After spending a few sessions adusting the height, I dialed in the Seth and what a difference. These pup's respond very well to minor height adustments. If you are finding your pup thin...try bringing it up a bit.
