Antiquitys and JB-Good combo?

Ok guys...I'm going into one of those moods...I'm pulling out the soldering iron and making some changes!! :)

I just got a great looking black pearl S-S-H pickguard from Warmoth to go onto my main axe. She was going to get a HRn-FENDERm-HRb combo...but what the heck, time to try something new. I have an old JB in my toolbox gathering dust. I was wondering, would antiquity singles go well in the neck and middle positions, or am I kidding myself here? I would like a lot of versatility and I was thinking this may do it. At the same time, I worry that the JB would kill the vibe due to output mismatch. Would a 59b or the like be a better choice in this instance? Any help would be appreciated...I'm buying in about a week.

I don't know if this helps much, but I'm looking at matching something like a pair of Antiquities Texas Hot or Fender Texas Specials with a JB......

Re: Antiquitys and JB-Good combo?

I've paired the JB with Duncan SSL-1's, which at 6.5K seem to be at least 5% hotter than vintage Strat pickups and I felt the JB overpowered them. I've also paired the JB with Fralin Blues Specials which are maybe 10% hotter than vintage Strat pickups and felt the JB overpowered those too. The Antiquity Texas Hots measure around 6.5K but use alnico 2 magnets which most feel have a little softer response than alnico 5. So my guess is that for my tastes, the JB would probably overpower those too. So yes: I think you'd be better off using a 59B with the Antiquitys. But try it and see...ya never know! Lew

How about Classic Stacks, Hot Stacks or Vintage Rails? They aren't antiquities by a long shot, but these might work maybe.
