antiquity's

I have an 80's model Fender strat that I had given to me a few years ago. I havent played it much because it has EMG pickups in it and its just not my style. I have been looking at the antiquity Texas Hot pickup and it sounds like what I want out of a pickup. This may sound stupid, but I cant figure out from the description if I get all 3 pickups for the guitar or if I just get one. Can anybody help me out on this?

Re: antiquity's

you can get a set of 3 or buy them individually. They come in individual boxes when you buy them in a set though.

Re: antiquity's

Would it sound better to have 3 different ones or all texas hots? Better idea to put the custom bridge in the bridge position??

Re: antiquity's

I have an American Strat I just put Antiquity's in. My choice was Texas Hot in the neck, Texas Hot RW/RP in the mid, and Custom Texas Hot in the bridge. If you want some pure vintage tone out of your Strat, I highly recommend this trio. The RW/RP pickup in the middle cancels out any noise in the #2 and #4 position on your 5-way switch. I just got through playing that Strat before sitting down at the pc again. I'm always walking away wanting to hear that tone some more.
Best-sounding single-coils I've played yet.

Re: antiquity's

i second what midnite man said... "the best".

I'm getting a Washburn CT2Q with Antiquity humbuckers tomorrow. And am hoping they will likewise sound the best of the vintage humbucker breed ...

That's the way they are designed to be done and the way they sound best IMHO. No better strat pups available ...

Any special deals for forumites there at BlackRose? heheheh! :laugh2:

I actually placed an order with you guys a while back...great service man, and highly appreciated! :)

I do have a question for ya, though...I'm 'rebuilding' a 75 strat with a new custom body...I'm going for a Hendrix-style strat tone...do you guys think that antiquitys could be the ticket for that?

Thanks!

Re: antiquity's

I love the Texas Hots and the 9.5K Antiquity Texas Hot Custom is the best Strat bridge pickup with traditional construction I've ever used!

All three are alnico 2 pickups, so they're actually a little less glassy than stock alnico 5 Strat pickups from the 50's and 60's. I have a real '63 Strat and the Texas Hots have slightly chunkier mids and smoother highs.

I also have a set of the new Antiquity II "Surfer" Strat pickups that measure about the same as the Texas Hots as far as D.C. resistance goes, but use alnico 5 polepieces. I haven't installed them yet...been concentrating on getting the Ultimate Tele tone from my three Teles.

Re: antiquity's

I haven't tried the texas hots in the middle and neck yet. Yet the 9.99K custom ant bridge I got from Lew is GREAT!

Ultimate Tele tone...very cool! When I switch jobs in about 6 months (and therefore have the time), I'm gonna pick up a Butterscotch blonde tele and strat...then, I'm going to work with a soldering iron! I'll have to check out your thread then...last time I looked at it, it was suitable for vaulting then...must be massive by now!

Re: antiquity's

Thanks! Something I'm going to try soon in my '57 RI Strat are the alnico 5 Antiquity II Neck and Middle and alnico 2 Antiquity Custom Strat bridge. I've had my '63 Strat for 30 years, and that alnico 5 tone is something I'm used to. But I've never loved the 6K bridge pickup on a vintage Strat and the a2 Antiquity Custom Strat bridge seems alot nicer to my ears. Lew

I like A5's myself...I'd like to hear what you think of Seymour's take on the A5 with the Antiquity II set. Probably incredible, as usual! Maybe you'll like the A5 a little better with beefier output...? Hope so.

Re: antiquity's

Lew!! I'm very curious as to how surfers sound!!

Could you make a 10 second clip please when you put them in?
Alnico 5s are supposed to be chimier and glassier i believe. I'm really anxious to find out what they sound like - probably would make for a good hendrix tone

Absolutely. And with the help of a few effects pedals I can do Trower-like riffs easily. My Voodoo Labs MicroVibe pedal has never sounded better with any other pickups.
Like I said, and it's my opinion only, Antiquity pickups are about as vintage sounding as you can get in Seymour Duncan pickups.
A close second would possibly be SSL-1's or Alnico Pro II single coils, or a combination of both with a high output bridge pup like a SSL-3.
