Any essential mods for a blues jr.?

Re: Any essential mods for a blues jr.?

I've changed the speaker to a Jensen RI C12N, and the tubes to JJ power tubes, and I use an NOS GE tube in V1. Sounds great, but others will have other recommendations.

If you visit the FDP forum, you will find a list of mods from Bill M.

the speaker is the most important thing to change, tubes are second. i use a greenback. the jj power tubes are best, same as the groove tubes gtel84s, unless you want to go nos.
you can change the preamp tubes to suit your personal tastes

I did the same with my BJ...the stock speaker was lame IMO, the C12N made a big difference...I got a set of JJ power and preamp tubes in mine as well, that little thing is a beast :saeek:

Speaker swap was the best $/tone investment ever. I got a Weber ceramic Blue Dog and would highly recommend calling Weber VST to get their advice on speaker selection based on your music, equipment, etc.

Electro Harmonix tubes work well for me and were worth the $$$ too.

A Weber Mini-Mass attentuator is also a great enhancement - you can get power tube distortion, pre-amp distortion, or both without damaging your hearing or having the neighbors call the cops.

Here's a short article on get rid of rattles in a Blues Jr. just in case: http://www.guitarsite.com/newsletters/000821/7.shtml

Here's a link to the endless Blues Jr. Mafia thread on the FDP.
