Any fans of Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive?

Re: Any fans of Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive?

i have one somewhere.... it is not a bad pedal but i find it depends greatly on the amp it's used with.... I really like it with some SS amps... which may be odd....

Re: Any fans of Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive?

Yeah i was impressed. A little more gain/grit then my Ibanez TS-9 that i just purchased and for the price,i might pick one of these up as well!!

Re: Any fans of Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive?

Be aware that there is a real nasty problem with the overdrive ghosting on the SD-1 in the bypass mode at higher gain settings. I had one and did the bypass mod that Monti Allums has along with his basic mod and it helped the SD-1 overall a LOT! I don't like those stock at all.
My favorite Boss overdrive is by far the BD-2.The BD-2 is a realy good sounding pedal stock but add the H2O kit from Monti and it's IMO the best sounding overdrive out there!!!

Re: Any fans of Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive?

it doesn't have a big enough volume boost for me

if it boosted like a ts i'd prolly own one

Re: Any fans of Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive?

just for boosting an overdriven amp slightly..nothing special though..

Re: Any fans of Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive?

modded i think its an awesome pedal....stock its like the ts imo, ok but nothing special

Re: Any fans of Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive?

The mods seem to be the way to go with alot of pedals!

I have two. One is modded with the Monte Allums GT kit, with two toggles and all kinds of bells and whistles. It had the bleed problem, so I also did the bleed-fix mod from IndyGuitarist.com.

The GT Mod is a very versatile pedal - I like it so far, but haven't had a chance to really work through it yet.

I have a second SD-1 that's stock. I plan to do the bleed fix on it, and then a few of the changes that comprise the GT mod - mostly hi-fi mods and a better op amp. I may or may not reduce the mid-hump. Then, I'll stop before I get to the clipping-section changes. I actually kind of like the SD-1's clipping section the way it is.

Re: Any fans of Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive?

I like mine in stock form. I usually set il with lower fuzziness and higher volume.

Re: Any fans of Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive?

I got a modded one from Davey. Supposed to be more transparent. I like it but then again I'm not that experienced in pedals. I will say this. The wee bastard is a tough one.

Re: Any fans of Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive?

I have one and i am about to mod it with the monte allums TS808 mod (even though i still believe i won't like it as much as my boss BD2 monteallums H2O moded one)

Re: Any fans of Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive?

I have one. I like it stock and modded. Mine is modded to TS-808 specs except for the tone section. That change was just an experiment but the results came out well enough that I plan on leaving it that way. I have a MXR ZW-44 which is a SD-1 clone anyway, but with more gain, and I like just as well, if not more, than the SD-1.

Re: Any fans of Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive?

I have one and modded it, with my own clipping section and opamp as well as monte allum's cap work. I LOVE it. You can take it from my cold dead hands :D

Fun pedal to mod, dirt cheap, not that bad stock for me... what's not to like.

Thats news to me. I have owned several and never had any problems.

I like them. A different flavor than the TS-9

Re: Any fans of Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive?

mine is just stock... i do use it once in a while to add some slight OD to a clean-ish original 65 Deluxe amp and a stock tele or strat... make it sound more like the amp is cranked

Re: Any fans of Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive?

I have one. I mainly use it in front of my silverface champ in my living room. I like it enough it goes on my pedalboard when I play out or jam. Sounds good with all my tube amps.

Re: Any fans of Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive?

I have it and I love it for what I use if for...a volume and gain boost for solos. It is good for that because there is a fairly noticable bass cut and tightens the sound up for leads and it also thickens up the overall tone for solos. However, I wouldn't use it too much for rythms BECAUSE of the bass cut as well. So you'd probably have to crank the bass on your amp to compensate. I don't find it to be a very 'warm' sounding overdrive, which is another reason I wouldn't necessarily use it for rhythms, but I find it gets great 'classic metal' tones (again, given that you crank the bass to compensate if your gonna use this for your main overdriven sound). I guess I just prefer the natural amp distortion for rhythms.
