Any Fans of Reverse Jimi Hendrix Guitars?

Does anyone here have any guitars that that are left handed strung right handed? I've also met some people who have used Warmoth's reverse Strat body (right left handed body routed for right handed electronics and pickguard). Pictures are always welcome.

Speaking of which, happy 50th anniversary of the Monetary Pop Festival.

Here's a (poorly done) electronic mockup of the right handed reverse Strat bodies.

I for one think they look nice. A LOT better in person though.

I've mentioned before that I strongly prefer a reverse slant on the bridge pickup. Reverse headstock isn't particularly important to me, though if you are going for every detail of Jimi Hendrix tone, it makes sense to use a reverse bridge, reversed bridge pickup, reversed stagger on the pickups, and reverse neck. Assuming you are willing to compromise historical accuracy and not just do the lefty strung righty thing.

Though arguably the most important detail is the long, high capacitance curly cable to roll off the highs just right.

But the thing that bugs me most about strat bridge tone is the high notes being shrill. I prefer bite on low strings more than high. Outside fixing that, I have other interests that override.

Though it is amazing to think what he did with a fairly crude instrument. Which is doubtless why so many still chase... well, mostly the wrong configuration to truly replicate what he was doing.

Re: Any Fans of Reverse Jimi Hendrix Guitars?

That picture was for a guitar I was planning on making for a Hendrix tribute, but I never got around to it. I wanted to go with a reverse slant on the bridge pickup because I too prefer the tone, but it messed with the aesthetics too much for me. The bridge pickup had to many conflicting angles. It didn't line up with the controls like it usually does, but it would almost line up kind of with the treble side horn, which looked odd. The Floyd Rose is also a stray from historical accuracy.

Attachment 82409 didn't work here, notify an administrator if it's a valid link, it claims. But I don't know if it's valid, because it didn't work...

My dream strat would probably do a modern 2-post nonlocking Fender-style trem [not sure if I'd reverse the bridge or not], with graphtech tusq nut & locking tuners. With a pickup config that'd horrify strat notch tone fans, and single coil purists. [STK-S6b/STK-S4m/STK-S7 neck]

And throw in a 6-way switch to give bridge+neck combo without multiple control adjustments. Less flexible than a blend mod, but faster.

I don't care about looks if they conflict with function, if it doesn't sound right to me, I wont use it, so looks don't even enter into it. I think most of the appearance flinches on changing retro gear are due to familiarity, more than anything wrong with doing it differently. Have never run across a non-guitarist grumbling about Paul Gilbert or Jake E. Lee using slants on the wrong pickups, or nonstandard angle of the slants.

It's working for me on both my computers, so I don't know what is wrong.

I too am a fan of the STK 7n/4m/6b combo. Some people think that the "stagger" of the pickups is wrong with the hottest pickup being in the neck, but I like a little extra beef for my neck solos. And the cooler middle pickup gives the 2 and 4 positions extra quack. And they are noiseless.

Edit: Since this is a Hendrix forum, I must recommend that you get them with a lefty stagger.

Ewww, that would seem to be an ergonomic nightmare.

Re: Any Fans of Reverse Jimi Hendrix Guitars?

i made an esquire with a reverse headstock and reverse bridge pup and i love the thing. id never want the controls flipped though, seems like theyd get in the way too much

Re: Any Fans of Reverse Jimi Hendrix Guitars?

Having played a reverse-strung lefty, it's not that bad if you don't play above the 20th fret. But their aren't many times when you need to.

Currently this is three CS69s, I'm thinking of going for a Ilitch noise cancelling pickguard. If I do, I may go reverse bridge stagger as well.

I don't think I'd want the body or controls reversed. Reverse (lefty) trem may be interesting based on reviews of the SRV.

Re: Any Fans of Reverse Jimi Hendrix Guitars?

So the body design of a Stratocaster has an ergonomic layout for a reason. If you were to do anything, reverse bridge pickup and headstock. It will give you the minute difference from the bridge tone and the tension of the strings a little different. I really don't think there is anything you'll really notice.

SRV liked the reverse tremolo, but I don't think that changes the tone, but just the habit of reaching for a tremolo.

Re: Any Fans of Reverse Jimi Hendrix Guitars?

The thing I like more about the reverse Strat is it kind of strays into "uncanny valley" in a way. It's almost exactly the same as a standard Strat (except the headstock and bridge angle) but then again it looks almost completely wrong. The first time I saw a picture of one I just scrolled past it, and then it took me a second to realize something was up with picture.

Re: Any Fans of Reverse Jimi Hendrix Guitars?

I did this build before the Jimi tribute came out. HH so not too much a Jimi Strat but this guitar checks all of the boxes for me.

Re: Any Fans of Reverse Jimi Hendrix Guitars?

I really like the look of the current Fender tribute. Perhaps Father Christmas will take the hint this year.

Remember the Hendrix 'Epiphone' strat-shaped guitar from the 90s? Wow!
You know, I can't get used to reverse headstocks. They seem awkward to use for me.

It is awkward at first but more ergonomic when you get used to it.

Yeah, I have two. Have a 1966, and bought a second MIM/LH as a back up. I learned a few things about why Hendrix plays and sounds like he did from these.
