Any fans of That Pedal Show or Keeley? (NPD...)

If you aren't familiar with That Pedal Show, it's probably the best guitar show on YouTube, IMO. Dan is the creator of The GigRig company and builds boards for a ton of touring pros, Mick was the senior editor at Guitarist. Nearly every episode explains something related guitar in technical yet accessible way, and their style is entertaining to me.

They met up with Robert Keeley and now have a signature Pedal....

The Boost side seems to be Klon based to me but with some tweaks, biased more toward the Boost than the Overdrive end of the spectrum. Awesome clean boost with the gain off, and rolling that gain up adds in a great light clipping. I actually prefer it to the Archer Ikon, I literally can't find a bad setting on it. Boosting the Fender, Splawn or Mesa, it works great. It's got the feel of the Katana Boost with the internal 18V charge pump.

The Drive side is a hard clipping style distortion that I think may be OCD inspired. It's got a very immediate feel that is different than the JFET and Fuzz based pedals I usually use. Sounds good into the Fender but really great into more Marshall based preamps and similar settings on the Mesa. Super harmonic and huge sounding.

Combined: Wow! Boost into Drive makes a quasi Fuzz tone that can be aggressive and slightly spitting on the attack like a Fuzz Face biased a little low. Endless sustain, leads are super effortless and fun.

Fun pedal, especially considering it's basically two boutique drives in one...

It's top of my gas list, just wish I had the money!

I'd have to listen more closely, and even then it would be hard to tell from the video but from casual listen I think it's, at least, heavily based on the Keeley Oxblood. I wont go as far as to say that R.K. simply split the lower and higher gain settings of the Oxblood into two sections of a double pedal but I'm pretty sure I'm hearing it on both sides of the pedal. That wouldn't be a bad thing. The Oxblood is my favorite colored boost/drive pedal and it has some switchable settings that make a significant difference in eq and gain (and compression) such that it would be more versatile split into a double pedal. Whatever the case, I like it. Cool pedal.

Re: Any fans of That Pedal Show or Keeley? (NPD...)

If the oxblood is klon based (which it is, right?) the Drive side doesn't sound like a Klon at all. It sounds and feels like an old school distortion style pedal with tons of tweaks and mods. (That's why I reference the OCD...)

The Boost side is absolutely amazing.

Re: Any fans of That Pedal Show or Keeley? (NPD...)

Might have to check that out too...

I think I found an early schematic for what became the Oxblood. The differences I hear on the boost side make sense....

I found a video directly comparing the D&M Drive with an OCD. The drive side definitely seems to be OCD-ish. Very cool combo pedal.

Re: Any fans of That Pedal Show or Keeley? (NPD...)

I've watched many of their videos, subbed to their channel. Dan is a helluva player.

That looks pretty much like exactly what I need in my life! I watch the show on occasion (there's a fair amount of re tread on it), but this definitelty slipped past me. Very cool!

I've been GASing hard for this pedal. I'm a huge fan of that show.

IIRC, the Drive (Dan) side is based loosely on one side of the KoT w/ the high gain mod. The Boost side (Mick) is loosely based on a TubeScreamer. I'm going to have to go back and give the show where they talked about it at length a listen.

Re: Any fans of That Pedal Show or Keeley? (NPD...)

Looks like I was slightly off, Dan said his side takes up where the KoT leaves off. So a gainer, flat EQ drive.

Re: Any fans of That Pedal Show or Keeley? (NPD...)

Yeah, it's got a lot on tap, more than I feel the KOT has. And the boost side is definitely Klon inspired. 18V charge pump and parallel clean boost. The drive that is blended may be TS instead of Klon style though, it seems soft clipped. The Boost is worth the price of admission alone. It's really that good.

Great pedal though... you should get one!

After actually watching the whole thing, they did say the boost was more Klon inspired.

And I really should. But I have so many things I want to buy!

Re: Any fans of That Pedal Show or Keeley? (NPD...)

I've wanted one since they announced it. I currently have a GFS Twin Overdrive that I basically just use the "808" side as a boost but I never use the "TS9" side as I don't find the pedal to really sounds a whole lot like their supposed to, not that it sounds bad. I feel as though I could use this and still get a great drive tone out of it and replace the giant green thing on my board.
