Any info on EVH's Mini LP....

From 1982-1985 EVH used 2 mini Les Paul style guitars live for the tune Little Guitars... One was an amber or yellow colour with Les Paul Deluxe pickups in it... and the other i think he had for the 1984 tour only was a red colour with full size Humbuckers in it. What on earth are the scale length of these guitars and how were they tuned.... i assume Ed tuned the strings higher then normal because when you play the song Little Guitars on a regular guitar you need a capo on the 2nd fret i think..

Anyone have any info on these guitars?

Ed said David Petschulat gave it to him when they were at a hotel during the Fair Warning tour. I think he's the one who built it. You could look for info about him.

I found a quote from Steve Morse that may help: "I also have a miniature copy of my guitar made by Dave Petschulat of the Pickin’ Parlor in Nashville."

Thanks for the tip.... All i remembered about it is Ed saying he saw some kid sitting on the steps of his Hotel picking it and it caught his eye...

I can tell you about it. David Petschulat made it and several others like it. I know because his brother Chris was my roommate in the early 80's in Nashville, TN. Dave also sold one to Jackson Browne for Jackson's little boy. He did not give it to him, he sold it to him and had a copy of Eddie's check framed and hanging on his wall. Ed's check had a skull and crossbones on the top left corner. He made several custom guitars and sold them to various artists. I know a guitarist from Molly Hatchet bought one of his guitars but it was not the mini Les Paul style. David graduated from the University of Cincinnati which is an art college and started making his guitars there. He made me a pair of speakers too. Dave made a lot of guitars that looked like this, http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/topic/64364-molly-hatchet-rebel-flag-standard/ it was the design he played and the one he thought would make him rich and famous. He is neither. He and his brother moved to LA about 1986 and I lost touch with them.

Okay the 8th post on that link is the Petschulat guitar. I got to go backstage and meet Eddie and Valerie one time when Dave took me with him. Eddie was hell on guitars, half of the ones he had were torn up and he would drop them off with David P and Dave would fix them and build new parts for them and deliver them to Ed on the road.

Not exactly sure how big these guitars are but Rondo Music sells tiny guitars that must be tuned to A on the low string to keep intonation.

(Tuned a 4th up across the strings)
