:werd:i say it, the hermida audio zendrive II is quite possibly the best overdrive ever. i have never been blown away by a pedal as much as this one!!!:werd:

Re: any love for the zendrive II?

I've only heard the clips, and thought they sounded great. It seem like reviews were a bit more mixed than for the original...some folks felt the benefits of a tube weren't worth the extra $$$.

I'd like to have one of each...:D

WoW...that's quite a statement!

what other OD's have you had experience with?!

Re: any love for the zendrive II?

The Zen Drive is one of the few drive pedals that is not a Tube Screamer clone. They sound fantastic! Great pedal.

Hoss, you will have to forgive me for not listing all of the overdrive pedals I've listened to! :)

Re: any love for the zendrive II?

I remember hearing that one of my favorite players, Robben Ford, uses the Zendrive.

Here's something I found on TDPRI.

Yesterday I attended a guitar clinic put on by Robben Ford in Ojai California. One of the many interesting things he told us was that he now prefers his Zendrive to the O/D channel in his Dumble amp! I thought you guys would be interested in that one!

The OP is talking about the Zendrive II not the regular Zendrive...

Re: any love for the zendrive II?

I knew he was referring to the new tube version. I always hesitate to buy tube pedals, just because they require maintenance and could fizz out at the worst time. But I'd be very curious to hear the 2 Zendrives alongside the Klon, Landgraff, and RC Booster, just to hear all the differences.

Re: any love for the zendrive II?

I have zero interest in Dumble amps...I've played clones and originals and IM just unimpressed and I could give a rats ass about any Landgraff pedals (which always seem to come up when folks talk Dumble) but I am interestedin the Zen Drive...not at all to try and cop a Dumble sound but I hear los of good things....

Re: any love for the zendrive II?

The Ocean EFX Pearl Drive is supposed to be in the same camp as the Zendrive and Landgraffs...i can't imagine any pedal sounding better than that one did!?! If the Zendrive does indeed sound better than the Pearl Drive then it truly would be awesome!!! haha!

I'd love to try one out!

my pedalboard is as follows:

fulltone clyde(white)> maxon af-9> zendrive II> barber direct drive SS> fulltone ocd(ver.2)>voodoo lab microvibe>voodoo lab analog chorus>boss tu-2>marshall jcm 800 2205

i've also owned or borrowed the following:

boss super overdrive
mxr dist.+
mxr doubleshot dist.
ibanez ts-9
barber direct drive
klon centaur
greer ghetto stomp
voodoo lab sparkle drive
eh muff pi

i've demoed too many to mention. not saying i'm pro, but i've done a pretty thorough search of what sounds good to my taste.

me too!!! lol!! would really love to spend some quality time with a landgraff. the klon is nice, but i just love the tone of the zendrive II.

that's what i'm talking about. sure, you can get dumble tone out of it, but this pedal is no one trick pony. let me explain why i give such a glowing report on this pedal.

first off, it is the first pedal i have found (finally) that doesn't have that "i've playing with a pedal and you can tell because the bass has been cut and warmth has been compromised" tone. some pedals are worse than others with this, but i swear you can dial this pedal in to where is sounds like all you've done is kicked in another gain stage in your amp (think overdrive channel). very warm sounding.

second, this bad boy reacts with a guitar volume knob like nobody's business. you could control lead and rhythmn volumes and tone with a turn of the volume knob.

third, sure it's almost a cliche with boutique pedals, but really does have nice transparency. (i.e. you strat still sounds like a strat and your LP still sounds like a LP)

fourth, versatility. as mentioned before you can get dumble tone, robin ford tone, EJ tone, "done take me alive" steely dan tone. but there's a lot more in there than that. the secret is in the voice control. i very easily get a foo fighters dave grohl tone out of it! (kinds the opposite end of the spectrum huh?) the controls are very interactive in that there are many "sweet spots" with it. a tweakers dream, yet it's easy to dial in.

i originally bought is as a lead boost with other options, but quickly found that i like it so much that i now use my ocd for that purpose.

Re: any love for the zendrive II?

I had a good play on a zendrive a while ago. It was very impressive. I'm also in the 'no interest in dumbles' camp. In fact I consider the Robben-Larry wannabe crowd over on TGP to be the single most hideous bunch of people to ever clog a forum. But the zen was incredibly playable. I'd love to get some more time on one and see what I could squeeze out of it.

but the real object of my desires is the Landgraff Mo'D. That thing is badass.
