Any Norton (NOT air) users out there?

Wierd you never see the Norton discussed much, the 'old' Norton, not the air norton. Seems like it might be a good replacement for a JB if the JB honk was not to your liking.

thinking to try in place of the Fred as my superstrat is quite trebly. So anyone with experience with this PU in a trem-equipped axe, what's it like? Balanced, good bass, or JB-like?

(FWIW I like the JB but looking for a real balanced (but beefier than PAF) sound in this guitar which is why I went with the Fred in the first place...)

my carvin neck through is too trebly/not enough bass for me with the super distortion ive got... i was thinkin about droppin in a tone zone down there and keepin the humbucker from hell in the neck slot. maybe norton is a better choice? not as much bass as tz? ive never heard a norton before it sounds intriguing though

Judging by the tone spectrum and the info from the DiMarzio website, it looks like it would be a great neck pup... for me anyway, I like hot necks... As a bridge pup it probably has all the good things about the JB but not annoying to listen to...

I had the norton in the bridge of a hardtail Warmoth. I didn't care for it. There was something in the uppermids/highs that didn't agree with me. I found the Super Distortion to be much more to my liking. Much smoother and balanced in that guitar. In all honesty, I would take a JB over the norton any day of the week. I don't find anything about the JB annoying to listen to but I did in the Norton.

Well, looks like we've covered the spectrum there...I may just have to get one & try it out & report back. I'm going to gget some clips of the Fred on the strat on the website this wknd, then I'll send for a Norton & slap it in there...

I think the Breed would be a perfect choice for what you're looking for.

Re: Any Norton (NOT air) users out there?

I once asked dimarzio tech support to compare norton and breed as a replacement for custom5. from what they told me breed would be a better replacement for C5 than norton is. it has more mids for a bright guitar but it still sounds open and natural.
norton has unbalanced coils so that makes it a little artificial like TZ.
