I have a Late 50's Gibson Gold top re-issue with P-90"s Help with wiring, should I go with Gib. 300k's old school wiring? or 500k? Thank's Mike:crazy:

I would go with Seymour Duncan Antiquities or vintage P90s, 300k volume pots and 500k tone pots.

Re: Any one know about P90's???

Up to you.
But 300k is a 70's/80's thing in origin....not old school.

Vintage Jr's got either 500k in both posi's, or a 250k vol pot + 500k tone.
The 56 goldtpop got all 'nominal' 500k pots.

Higher values work better in the neck circuit, where clarity is preferred. In the bridge there is already plenty of that so you can afford to tame it with lower value pots.

300k for dark, 500k for bright, duh. Or you can mix them like 500k for neck and 300k for bridge.

Re: Any one know about P90's???

P-90's tend to be pretty bright while still fat. I'd leave it alone.

And I have no problem with Gibson P-90's. Great P90 pickups IMO.

All up to your ears.

No one can answer what you "should" do until you list your criteria. Why are you doing wiring work on the guitar? Is something in need of repair? Are you wanting to change something about the way the guitar sounds?

Yeah, I always thought 500k is the vintage thing. But hey, use whatever you like. I'd never stick with something just because it is vintage.

Gibson P90's tend to be good to go if you want an old school sound. As for the pots...500k is what I stick to with soapbars and humbuckers, but on a LP, SG, or 335, you can set up the darker neck position with 500k or even 1meg pots and the bridge with a lowrr value to take some of the edge off.

The 50's Jr's had 500k audio volumes and 250k audio tones. The two-pickup P90 guitars used 500k all around. The 300k linear volume pots started in later modern era guitars, many players change them out for 500k audio pots.
