Any other rack gear users here?

hey guys,
Anybody else here uses rack gear?? I am talking Preamp, poweramp and effects. Not an effects rack unit and an amp head or combo.

List your rack setup or full setup if you want :)

Mine goes:
Epi LesPaul With Custom Sh-5 In Bridge
Dunlop Crybaby
ADA MP-1 3TM
ADA MQ-1 EQ
Rocktron Intellifex
Peavey Classic 60/60
Yorkville 2x12 Cabinet with Celestion Classic Lead 80s.

Everything is weird with Canare GS-6 cables and Neutrik ends.

Wow, looking at that pic is like stepping back in time. I remember when almost everyone I knew had a rack with an ADA preamp.

Re: Any other rack gear users here?

Mine is
Roland GP-100 preamp/effects
Oberheim Digital Echoplex Pro
Roland GI-10 Midi Interface
Roland XV-5050 Synthesizer
Alesis Nanoverb

No power amp...either go direct (via my Mackie 1202vlz) or into powered JBL EONs with 15's and horns.

Re: Any other rack gear users here?

I'm running a rack. It's pretty straight forward but it works. Here's the stuff:

Mesa 8 space shock rack
Furman RP-8L conditioner
Korg DTR-2 tuner
Mesa Triaxis preamp
Mesa 2:90
2- Mesa 90 watt 112 3/4 back cabs
BBE 362
Rocktron Intelleffect
Rocktron Intellipitch
Rocktron MidiMate
Shure ULXS4 Wireless w/frontmount antenna kit

Re: Any other rack gear users here?

This isn't exactly how it looks anymore, but you get the idea.

Re: Any other rack gear users here?

Furman PL-Plus Power Conditioner
Boss TU-12H Tuner (off recording outs on preamp)
Mesa Rectifier Recording Preamp
(Loop) Furman PQ-3 Parametric EQ
(Loop) EHX Small Clone
(Loop) EHX Polychorus
Mesa 2:100 Power Amp
THD Hotplate (x2)
Mesa Recto 4x12 (x2)

It's not complete yet, I'm still in the process of building it. I had a Lexicon MPX G2 for it, but it was lost in shipping (good thing it had insurance). I still want/need the second cab, a rack case, and a rack switching unit (so I can get all my pedals up off the floor).

When all is done, I want to be able to plug in, drop a midi contoller, and rock.

Re: Any other rack gear users here?

i am soon switching to rack gear. im gonna run a preamp and effects and a compresser into the the power amp of my jcm 900. i never knew i could do this until my bass player started doing it last week. so i think im gonna give it a try.

Good Gawd, man! What does that thing run on? Nuclear Fission?

Just kidding. :laugh2: althought Steve Vai and John Petrucci are the only people I've seen with rack rigs bigger than that.

Re: Any other rack gear users here?

I've had a rack system for over 10 years now. I'm not looking to change. They're consistent, simple and easily overhauled. Here's mine......

1) Audio Technica Wireless >
2) DBX 163X Compressor >
3) Digitech GSP5 (yea, I know, it's old, but they still haven't improved on the echo and distortions) >
4) BBE 482 Sonic Maximizer >
5) Marshall 8008 Power Amp powering 212 cabinet and an extra 12" speaker for my deaf drummer...

Re: Any other rack gear users here?

B2D, The top rack is the guitar and the other 2 are my PA. Since that picture was taken I've changed a few pieces and split the 2:90 out into a separate rack. It was just too heavy to be practicle.

Re: Any other rack gear users here?

BTW, I control my rack looping/midi/guitar setup with a Digitech PMC-10, really the most versatile midi controller made.

Re: Any other rack gear users here?

I've been a rack guy for about 10 years now. I've changed it up many times and now have scaled back from the 16 space rack pictured below. Now I have a 10 space rack with a few less toys.

I have a bunch of pedals in front of all this, but here's what's in my current rack:
VHT 2/50/2 power amp
Randall RM4 - 4 channel preamp
Rocktron Hush
Chandler Stereo Echo
Lexicon Reverb
Rockman Stereo Chorus
Roland RE150 space echo
2 Bogner 2x12's (both with Lead 80's now)

Aren't those racks a total b**ch to transport?

They have wheels.

And it's much easier than carrying 8 or so different amps and processors in your arms, then having to re-wire it everytime you set up.

It's a great guitar EQ. It's quiet, it'll run at both insturment and line level, and the bands are based on frequencies that a guitar actually uses.

I haven't really used it much lately, busy doing the guitar -> cord -> amp thing. That, and the EQ on the Mesa preamp is hyper sensitive, and much more versitile tone wise, so I've been leaving the PQ-3 out of the loop altogther lately while learing how to tweek that amp.

I'll probably move it out of the loop and out front of the amp soon. I'm getting some EMG's installed in my LP, and I'd like to EQ them before they hit the amp.

Ah i see. Seems pretty cool. My rig is pretty simple, a small pedal board, amp guitar so i doubt a rack is for me. Still have wiring hassle though :smack:
