Any Suggestions for a Lightweight Tube Amp?

Well, my Blues Junior is on the fritz. I'll probably get it fixed, but it has me thinking of new amps. While it's out of commission, I'm using my Valveking 112. Good amp, underrated, but it's not quite what I'm looking to use as my main gigging amp.

What I play:
I play blues, funk, punk, classic rock, and some alternative depending on the band.
I like fuzz and overdriven tones, not so much full on distortion most of the time.
Most of my gigging guitars are single coils of some sort. P90's are most common followed by Strats and Teles.

What I need:
Lightweight. I injured my back bad about a year and a half ago. The Valveking is a bit heavy for me some days, so the Twin is completely out weight-wise. I'd like to be at 35 pounds or under (Would not mind more for small head and cab suggestions. More trips isn't a problem. Weight is).
Tube. Although I do use a Tech 21 Liverpool and a DI for a house-band set up I have. I want something a bit more idiot proof than my DI, though, for gigs without a competent FOH guy, and a good tube amp is always king.
Clean to crunch. I don't need to go into total distortion. Most of the time I keep a slight breakup going and kick on a pedal for a bit more.
Low Watt. I like the sound of pushing my amp, and I'm either playing small enough clubs where 10-15 watts is plenty, or I'm mic'ed up through the house.

I like the Vox AC10 a lot, but I'm also very interested in a lunchbox-type head and a small cab. I like silverface fenders (I like blackface more, but that's out of my price range), Vox stuff, and the Victory stuff intrigues me. I like the quality of the old point-to-point stuff, but not the price point of the new boutique point-to-point.

This is a saving-up type situation, so the more affordable, the sooner I can get what I need, but I do need a quality piece that I can rely on. I'd like to be in the $350-$750 range.

So, who knows some good, lightweight options for me?

I've never heard anything bad about the orange lunchbox heads. Check em out

Vox night trains are good. The Laney small combos sound ace. But, if you've got time and some saving, look for a Mesa TA-15 head - discontinued recently because, as far as I can tell, folk just didn't want Mesa straying too far off the path - one of the most underrated amps out there, so much tone for a small package.

Laney VC15 (or LC15). 15 watt combo with a 10" speaker. An effects loop and useable reverb (those two features are s/s but all the main signal path is tube). Laney have been making these for many years, so there are plenty of s/h ones about, and many or most of those will be made in the UK.

Check out the Princeton Reverb '65 reissue. Fender did a good job with it to my ears. You can convert your Blues Jr. into an extension cab for the Princeton, if you need to move a bit more air than the 10" speaker can. They are 34 lb., and within your price range on the used market.

Check out the DV Mark stuff, 40W Tube head under 20 lbs, or a 15W for 12.6 lbs and a 1-12 cab under 20lbs and a 2-12 under 30 lbs.

The Ibanez TSA amps get very little recognition in the States, but I have a TSA15H which is very nice and has a 5 watt switch. This amp is a bit lower volume (unless the boost is on) than my BJr. There is a TSA30H as well, but it an MV type amp allowing for lower volume playing. If your local GC has one in stock, give it a try.

Re: Any Suggestions for a Lightweight Tube Amp?

I know you specified Tube but check out the new range of Roland Blues Cubes. I wanted a lightweight combo for a new project where I didn't want to be lugging one of my tube Marshalls around and I just bought the 80w 1x12 Blues Cube Artist. It's lightweight, it has clean and crunch channels and it sounds fantastic at all volumes. Check out the YouTube demos, try one out, forget what's inside!

Roland Cubes are very cool and versatile amps–sterile cleans to insane gain! I've found Vox Valvestates to offer some very cool and versatile sounds as well.

The Blues Jr. was going to be my suggestion but its the one you are replacing. lol Just curious, have you ever tried a Pro Jr.? (in keeping with the Fender tube amps)

Re: Any Suggestions for a Lightweight Tube Amp?

My main amp is the Vox AC4C1 nice amp pumps out lots of power for the size. You can use it in the studio, and is light easy to move around

+1, I have used these on a backline a few times and they are great. Sounds like exactly what you described-

Re: Any Suggestions for a Lightweight Tube Amp?

Ampeg Jet reissue...killer tone, great old-school overdrive and not heavy. More than loud enough. Better reverb than most Fenders, too. Superb tremolo circuit. Around $350 used.

The Orange Tiny Terror combo is also killer, but around $500 used.

Re: Any Suggestions for a Lightweight Tube Amp?

VHT Special 6 combo. not the ultra 6. you can add external cabs in you want. i love mine.

Re: Any Suggestions for a Lightweight Tube Amp?

I suggest Vox Night Train or Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister 18.

H&K is lightweight and also has a DI output. Deluxe 20 models have also ambience emulation.
