Any tips for a noob Travis picker?

, I was just wondering if anyone had tips for someone who is just learning the Travis picking style? I always loved how Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed could keep a bass line going while playing melodies! Thanks, and hope you're having a great day!

I usually learn the melody first, and then try to add the bass parts in between the notes. I've also slowed things down (or looked at good transcriptions) to see the rhythmic relationship between the melody and the bass. It isn't an easy style to play, and if more people don't learn it, it is in danger of going away.
