Slide the minor pentatonic scale up a key and use lots of half step bends/hybrid picking and learned licks. Once you get your tone there the style should start coming.

I do a lot of what the other guys are saying, but I also bend behind the nut to approximate pedal steel licks.

BTW, I play country on hollowbodies. Tele's are cool, but Chet never needed one.
