Thinking about changing pups in my Strat and i`ve always been interested in the Van Zandt`s. Think it may be time to give them a shot. Any opinions from VZ owners would be greatly appreciated. :thanks:

I bought a set directly from Old man Van Zandt over the phone in '81 for my gunmetal blue 81 Strat. Then I sold it. At that time, I had pretty high standards. That Strat was about as tone dead as they come..but probably was better sounding than anything I have now.

Have been using a set of them for the last 10 years, in fact a bit more... Vintage + neck and mid and Blues sp. bridge. I also have a neck and middle real vintage that I keep in my drawer. All of them are from 99 and 2K.
Anyways, love that vintage + / blues bridge that I have. Nothing came close among the ones I have tried. There are other great ones, like surfers and fralins. But these ones have sort of a in your face bass without it being muddy, and have some of that chime of great 6.00K (or lower) strat singles (e.g. fralins').
There was the talk that after 2002 or whatever, their quality suffered and all? Is there any truth to that?
