Anybody Believe in This?

Re: Anybody Believe in This?

I didn’t watch it. But the trick to your guitar staying in tune is:

* don’t wrap more than three wraps on non locking tuners. Locking tuners are with no wraps is better.

* stretch your strings after you put them on by pulling them up a couple of inches and retuning. Do that a few times until they stay in tune.

* have a well cut nut, preferably made from a self lubricating material like Tusq.

Thank you! Didn't know about the wraps. In the video, he talks about the G string going out of pitch when playing bends. Does this apply?

Re: Anybody Believe in This?

No wonder the HardTail stays. Jeff sent it to me w/fresh set up and I see now there are 3 wraps on every string. He always knows what he's doing. Except when he tries to make a joke. :censored:

Sometimes redheads think they're funny. I has jokez sister:

What's the difference between a redhead and a vampire?
One is a pale, bloodsucking creature that avoids the sun. The other is a vampire.

What's the difference between a redhead and a bowling ball?
You could eat a bowling ball if you had to.

Why do redheads take the pill?
Wishful thinking.

What do you call a good looking man with a redhead?
A hostage.

What's the difference between dating a redhead and putting your hand in a blender?
There's always a 50/50 chance the blender isn't on.

I once saved four redheads from drowning in a lake!
I saved it as a JPEG.

Re: Anybody Believe in This?

I just HAD to say jokes. . .
How does a guitarist keep someone from stealing his guitar? Put it in a bass case.
Go check your gmail and stay out of the unsocial media.

Juniordammit,

Now we're in a family fight and it's all your fault. You chicken I know you're hiding. My boyfriend told me to stop blaming you for everything or you'll get pissed. He should be glad I'm not blaming HIM! I'm really a blonde.

Re: Anybody Believe in This?

Getting back to the subject . . . it doesn't really look like a bad idea. But I cringed when he took the peg nuts off with vise grips. Seriously! You couldn't round up a nice nutdriver for the video?

Re: Anybody Believe in This?

He had one. He threw it aside. And don't forget it was PADDED vise grips. Watch it again-he just threw it away. I can only assume because Joe Blow and I don't have one. He was no help when I asked him what to do if my vise grips were busted.
But I have a Leatherman. And fence pliers.
I'm always joking around, but really, do you think that dohicky would help enough to make it worth it, and also not screw up any other tensions? I'm a total newbie and trying to learn everything. Thx~

And what about waves?

Re: Anybody Believe in This?

I don't know. But I'm definitely gonna ask my luthier friend tomorrow. ;)

Re: Anybody Believe in This?

Back OT for me, I am considering one of these. I have two 3x3 headstock guitars that need new nuts. I also have one Custom Shop LP with a great nut that might still benefit from this. I'm looking into it.

Re: Anybody Believe in This?

Seen these before. I really think it's more a bandaid. How many touring pro's have managed to gig with Gibsons without resorting to one of these? Tweak or replace the nut and be done with it.

Re: Anybody Believe in This?

I can't help but think that it might be useful on an extreme case. Like this:

I have one of those and the string angle off the nut is ridiculous. I don't play it much lately but believe it or not, I don't have any tuning issues with it and I don't recall ever having to touch the nut. I don't play out though, but Aceman gigs with those Deans. He doesn't seem to have any issues.

As Darq mentioned, people have been playing LPs and similar for 50+ years and have survived, some even made some decent music (like the GOAT band Led Zeppelin).

The best newb advice I can give you is to go play the guitar, tune it when it needs it, then play it some more.

PS, if you don't know what GOAT stands for, google Ricky Carmichael
