Anybody here use GraphTech String Savers?

I just ordered a set for my Gibson Sg Standard, to prevent string breakage (I average breaking at least one a week).

Has anybody had any experience with them? If so, are you happy with them, and do they affect the tone in any kind of drastic way?

Re: Anybody here use GraphTech String Savers?

i have them on both my strat and my tele. i rarely break a string. if you are breaking them that often what gauge strings are you useing?? that seems to me a bit much. also check your current saddle to see if there is a groove or something that might be causing them to break. they are breaking right on the saddle right?? if they break by the nut, it means they are tuned to high. I would think about moving up to a heavier gauge strings first

a kid i know has a sg that was breaking strings all the time. i put a set of graphtech saddlesand he hasnt broke one since

Re: Anybody here use GraphTech String Savers?

I have a set on my 57ri, and they work very well. My flatmate has them on his epi LP custom, and they work well and don't mess with the tone very much.

I'm going to upgrade to the new graphtech ferraglide strat saddles soon.

Re: Anybody here use GraphTech String Savers?

I have them on my main axe, a Custom Shop Dinky Reverse. She´s never broken a string at the saddle, period. They always break at the nut (or sometimes even at the tuner! :saeek: ).

I normally change them first, though. But I played a bit less for a few years (Women  ), and in that time I only bought strings when one broke.

Can´t say much about the tonal difference, because I´ve never tried standard saddles on her.

There´s a soundclip of the axe in my signature ;)

I use them on my Strats & Teles. The difference they made was amazing. The guitars all sustain better and sound "chunkier". They're the best upgrade for the money.

Love 'em ... Use them on my main guitar, no adverse effects at all

Re: Anybody here use GraphTech String Savers?

I use them on strats. They work! I was digging in with about the same attack as SRV, and was snapping strings too often. I've used them since 98 and have broken only maybe one or two strings since then. For some reason 11's snap even easier than 10's or 9's. The reason is that they're less flexible and the tension is higher.
You'd think they'd be stronger, but they break easier than 10's. One way to keep them from breaking is to smooth out the saddle slots with a piece of folded sandpaper.
This de-burrs the saddles and eliminates a lot of broken strings. But, the Stringsavers have no sharp edge that can cut into the string, so you'll almost never break strings. On my strats, I now use stringsavers on just the plain strings, and keep the stock saddles on the wound strings. Looks funky but I find the tone is the best with that mixed combination.

I like GearJoneser's approach with the Graph Tech only on the plain strings but haven't wanted to re-intonate my MIM Strat. Used to break strings all the time and have only broken one or two sing installing the Graph Tech saddles.

They did dampen the tone a little bit, but that was a good thing for this guitar.

Use 'em on a strat style, i never broke strings much anyway, but they improved my sustain a bit, and gave better attack also. Even string bends feel a bit smoother, that one I can't figure out, also have the same material in the nut on that, and another ... nice, I'm eventually going to put them on all of the stringies ... :)

Re: Anybody here use GraphTech String Savers?

I would never use one on a strat, it darkens the instruments tone. That's fine for blues, but it does change the quack and bell-like shimmer that typical strats have. GraphTech is now coming out with the non Graphite string saving saddles and I think that's a great step. If the come out with an acoustic system with those kind of saddles, they'll be on my G&L in no time.

That's interesting. They gave my Strats a bit more cluck and shimmer.
