Before I did the master volume mod on my Hot Rod Deluxe I used one to get a handle on the outrageous volume. I think of it as more of a temporary fix. It allowed me to have a true master volume instead of a clean and a gain. I dropped in between the preamp and the amp through the effects loop. I does not help you reach tube saturation at lower volume. Only an attenuator can do that. :22:

Ok, I guessed that it didn't help you get the saturation at lower volumes... So, it just allows you to lower the overall volume if you whish to? I'm sorry, I'm a bit lost...

Yeah, with it in between the preamp and amp it acts like a true master volume over the clean volume and drive volume, at least on a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. I can't speak for other types of amps. :22:

Yeah, that's what I thought first... Then I remembered that a lot of the things you read on ebay are shtttttt... I mean, even tho I'm no electronics expert (especially for amps and pedals) you can see that this couldn't do the same as an attenuator.... I'll build one anyways, just for the sake of it.... I can keep you updated if you want...

Pure junk!
If you're amp has a MV, you dont need this. It's a pure scam for people who think they'll achieve power tube saturation with that thing.

You wont get great tones with that thing for sure.

I bought one last year, and it lets me play my Traynor YCV 40 with the distortion channel turned up, but at a reasonable volume. I like it and use it at home so I don't bother my neighbors.

Sure its simple to build, but at the time I didn't have the schematic and I live two hours from a Radio Shack, so it was easier to let UPS bring me one already built.

Using that in your effects loop, after the preamp out, and before the power amp in, doesn't that just drive your preamps tubes more? i thought the good, sweet tube sound was supposed to come from the power tubes?
