Anybody tried anderson pickups?

My edwards should be coming here next week and it's gonna have a similar pickup set up as my recent schecter, so i'm thinking of giving these a try. Specifically the H1- and H3. I just like to have different brands of pups among my guitars (ltd has emgs, lp will have duncans, prs has stocks, strat has fralins) :cool2:
I was having some problems with the Jb, but after raising it almost to the poles, it sounds much better. Thanks for the folks that chimed in! Hopefully it will be a perfect fit on the les Paul, being mahogany body and all :)

Only long enough to realize they're going into a parts drawer, to be replaced by Duncans. hehe

I've always liked the superb quality of Andersons, but the pickups with those big poles just aren't sweet enough to my ears.

LoL. They do look pretty ugly! If they sound good though , i won't rule them out just yet.

Andersons are a breed apart!

The H3 will be a permanent pickup in the bridge of my Epi LP.

The H1 sounds better than I can play in my 335-S...and I would love to hear the H1-! Don't let anyone fool ya, the F-spaced/large poles contribute to the overall tone. In my Gibson, Anderson pickups cured the dead/thin tone on the low "E"! Miraculous! These pickups have wide "capture", and do not get weak when the strings are bent away from the poles.

edit: What type of tone are you looking for...and what type of amp are you sporting?

They will be going to my hard rock/metal guitar. But i also love playing clean jazz guitar and this guitar has the perfect feel for that too. Also, the ocassional split position coils would be a huge plus so i can leave my strat in the case :D

Thanks for the thumbs up on the guitars! They ain't fancy, but they are good for me!

FWIW, I hear that Andersons are more "bass-y" than other pickups. I never hear that Anderson humbuckers are known to be thin sounding.

I just got a glimpse of your sig, so obviously you have a lot of Randall amp gain on tap! The only reason why I got on my Anderson pickup kick in the first place, was that Pepper Keenan of Corrosion of Conformity/DOWN was using the H3. Billy Howerdale of TOOL and APC was also known to be a user of this pickup...and Mesa/Boogie has used the H3, for the purposes of tone-testing its amps.

The H3, HAS A REALLY BIG ASS! It was too much/undefined for my all mahogany 335-S, but is absolutely perfect for my capped (alder wood, not really solid maple) generic Epiphone. Palm mutes are a cornerstone of my "style". Also, 1980's style "harmonics" do not fall out, like puke on New Years Eve...but if you have fresher strings, they are somewhat accessible.

Conversely I get so much more tone from the H1 in my all mahogany 335-S, than I do the Epi LP...which makes me want to try the H1- in my Epi LP! I really could not tell you why, but these are two different guitars...and the 335-S has an ebony fretboard.

On the mellower end of the spectrum, Andersons sound great when split! Why would Anderson players (God bless EVERYONE that has the cash for an Anderson :) ) put up with a harsh pickup? The H series have the magnet set vertically between the coils, not underneath, as conventional designs.

Thanks for the link man! That's where i'm planning on getting them since their price seems a bit lower than everybody else.
As long as harmonics are still present when i dig in, it seems i'm really gonna like the H3 on every other aspect. Love COC & Down too! Huge chunky low end all the way!

I have ordered from them twice, and even I changed a web-order by telephone the next day. They were easy to reach, on just one phone call! Great service, accurate billing, no issues!:cool2:
They are on the East Coast.

BTW, I also ordered a an HN series from them, but I am not totally enamored by the tone. Don't be scared...the neo-magnets in the HN2+ have lots of 1970's-80's "Marshall-y" treble tone/prescence in them. This is a personal taste issue, and I'm putting it out there because so few people have experience with neo pickups. They might be better for stage musicians looking for more "musical authority"...where merely being heard as a musician in a crowded stage mix is important.

I tend to think that I have forgotten how to do a lot of the harmonic stuff, mostly by choice. I was raised on Gibson's original issue Dirty Fingers p'ups. Considering the depth/width of the market, there are few pickups that have harmonics popping out all over like Dirty Fingers, so I would rate the H3 as about average with respect to pinch harmonics in high gain setups. Andersons seem to reject feedback well, too.

If you have the first DOWN record, the H3 sounds like the beginning of "Losing All", or DOWN II's "There Something on My Side". Thick and beefy!
