Anybody use an AIIPro bridge humbucker as a NECK humbucker?

The diff between the two is so slight (7.6K vs 7.85K) that it would seem that the bridge AIIPro would make a good neck pickup...maybe with Custom Custom bridge pickup. Anybody tried it?

Barlo uses a PG bridge as a neck...I used a 59 bridge as a neck once, but never an Alnico II pro...that said, if I could get it to work I would have an Alnico II pre Neck and a CC bridge...but I just can't get it to work :smack: ...not sure why!!!

Never tried it. Sounds interesting though. You gonna give it a shot, Lew?

Actually a friend (BLOODROSE) ordered a Blues Saraceno bridge humbucker and an AlnicoIIPro neck humbucker in black and Duncan is backordered on AIIPro necks. But I have plenty of bridge models in stock. So I was wondering if the bridge model would work well as a neck pickup with the Blues Saraceno.

hmm.. it would depend on how diferently it's voiced. the resistance isnt so great so that'd be a non-issue as it's really close together.

now the voicing. the bridge bucker is voiced for a thinner sound in the bridge due to less string vibration and it might get muddy in the neck.

but i guess you'll have to try it out to be exactly sure

just my $0.02

Can anyone comment on the voicing difference?? I know there usually is some. Normally a reduction in bass frequency to compensate for the position.
I too run a 59b in the neck position with great results. Honestly, I have 3 59s and have never tried one in the bridge.
How are the AII pros in the neck?? (reg neck pup)

I had a PG neck that I tried in bridge and it sounded to ice picky, I also did the same thing with a distortion bridge and it sounded o, but the neck sounded better. I would definetly think that you would need to look at the voicing on it.

My a2p is actually rated at 8.19k so it's not a very fair analysis. It's got a lot of bass. It's still clean and clear but there's quite a bit of bottom. Works pretty nicely with my Custom. I'm pretty happy with my setup.

Actually, bridge humbuckers are usually wound hotter and voiced thicker than neck pickups because of the reduced string vibration at the bridge position. :22:

They're wound hotter, but in the case of the AIIPro the diff is only .25K or 250 ohms...hardly anything if the published specs are accurate. Maybe I could even measure all my bridge humbuckers and find one would closer to 7.6! The neck is 7.6K and the bridge 7.85K according to the specs. If they are using the same wire, which I'm sure they are, there should be only a slight diff in tone and output between the two. Seymour told Gearjoneser a while back that the way to thicken the tone and add mids to a bridge humbucker is to wind it with more turns of wire...that's probably all there is to the differant voicing issue. My guess is that they would sound very similar and that the bridge AIIPro would work well as a neck humbucker. But that's just a guess! Lew

I have a pair of "Aero Instrument" Alnico II humbuckers in my Heritage H-150 & the one I use in the neck is the exact HB used in the bridge of Lentz "Les Paul" type guitars. I believe it's close to 8.5K & it sounds unbelievable. The bridge is around 12.7k & they blend perfectly. www.aeroinstrument.com

that is what i said.. they are voiced for a thinner position, thus giving them a thicker sound ;)
