anybody using a powered subwoofer with amp

hooked a Polk powered sub woofer to the line out om my Mesa. Very cool...4, 5 an 6th strings come through at really solid bass...cheap way to add a bass player when noodling around on your own.

That sounds like fun. Did the subwoofer seem to be in phase and well blended to the main amp?

Re: anybody using a powered subwoofer with amp

Yeah, it has phase adjustment so it works quite well. Real trick is trying to balance volume between amp and sub. Sub doesn't seem to understand when you play softly that it should be quieter, it just keeps on booming.

You do realize that a guitar is a midrange instrument, right?

Re: anybody using a powered subwoofer with amp

Never used a powered sub but i often use multiple amps and cabs with each one aiming at specific frequencies.

An amp with big lows and clear highs like my Fender Bassman or Sunn model T to compliment a crunchy midrangey amp like my Matamps, for example. I've seen lots other people do the same trick with, say, a Mesa and a Marshall, or a Twin Reverb with an AC30.
