Anyone Customize their Epiphone LP?

I'm dabbling in the realm of picking up new pick-ups for my Epi LP standard but i've only just begun. What combos of pickups, pick up-selector, paint,etc... has anyone done to their own? Anything! i just wanna read about things i can do to get some ideas. Thanks

I put APH-IIn and JB bridge with .022 sprague caps and have never looked back.I do have a Demon I might like to drop in sometime when I have absolutely nothing to do.

i replaced the pots with 500k cts, .022 orange drop caps, replaced the bridge and tail piece (not a direct replacement so you might wanna skip that) i put antiquitys in it when i had it. i put 59's in it when i sold it.

Ditto on the upgrade to CTS 500K pots and orange drops. It's well worth it!!

For pickups here are some suggestions:

I have customized my Epi Goldtop with Alnico II pro's, Corian nut, 500K CTS pots, high quality switch and jack, Fret level, crown, and dress, .022 orange drops and one of my soon to be famous killer setups!!!

basically i changed out the enitre electronics of my Epi LP
CTS 500k pots, high quality input switch and jack, one thing to note is that most LP replacement swiches and jack do not fit nicely into and Epi LP and requires some slight body modification .

I do for my Standard. I didnt know it until I took them out and had the regular shaft ones ordered so the old ones went back in and have never gotten back to it because just changing the caps made such a big difference.

what kind of input switch and jack do you guys reccomend? And what kind of work is required to replace pots and caps just a solder? or what? Anybody know a good custom Les paul online shop that distributes parts?

Also, when you say changing pots to 500k, you mean change the volume AND tone pots?

capacitors ('caps' for short) are the electrical component responsible for making a tone control ... well ... a tone control ...

technically speaking, caps are the "C" in an "RC" circuit that attenuates the high frequency component of the output signal (the "R" is the potentiometer - 'pot' for short - is a variable resistor)

as for the pots, yes both are frequently changed to 500K for humbuckers ... ideally an 'audio taper' pot for volume and a 'linear taper' pot for tone ...

I would change out the pots, caps, switch, and maybe jack (depending on wear and quality). I'm a big fan or orange drop caps as well.

I just talked to my EE/ECE friends. Still blurry, but...

the RC would be a low-pass filter -- i.e. clips/attenuates the highs? And that choosing a lower value capacitor (lower capacitance) would allow for higher frequencies to be "heard"?

Choosing the pot and cap values hence, would be choosing the "clean" frequency bandwidth? (Clean because the cap would "clip" the "peaks" of whichever range of frequencies?)

500k pots are standard
No recommendation on specific jacks/switches

Switchcraft brand

Standard pot value's are 500K but, the factory pots are usually Sh1T! They just get noisy and scratchy in a short period of time usually!

I recently did my epiphone using all CTS 500K pots, Switchcraft jack, switch, copper shielding, Duncan 59N and Custom 5 in the bridge.

It sure sounds a lot better then it did. I suggest that if you rewire the whole thing get good shielded connection wire.

Well, I did my Agile....which is Korean like an Epi, so I will tell you what I did to mine.

I am running a Gibson 490R in the neck and a Hybrid '59/Custom in the bridge. I also used an RS Guitarworks pre-wired vintage pot set, which made a huge difference.

Guitar sounds great.

See my sig. The Brobucker was supposed to go in it, but I've run into some problems (namely an incompetent tech at a local music store). Hopefully once I get that resolved it will have the Brobucker in it (still haven't heard the d**n thing!).
