They rumor I hear about Peavey is, After the begining of the year they are going to slightly change the wolfgang and lower the price on them a good amount. I know a halfway decent source this has came from.

there is NO way that's happening with the wolfgangs...ed owns EVERYTHING on that guitar...unless they strike up a deal with him they can't use it...ed learned his lesson with the EBMM...

Bob at eurotubes has an interesting write up on peavey heads headshttp://www.eurotubes.com/euro-k.htm
I've heard my guitar teacher play through a 5150 and I didn't like it in the least. Maybe it wasn't turned up enough or something but WOAH ick! The Peavey ultra is a nice head but needs refinement IMO. When I saw Van Halen in Sept. Ed used a black and yellow candy strip guitar and a green wolfgang with a sustainer. His tone with the candy stripe was GREAT with the wolfie it was so-so. When he took a break and Sammy played (where eagles fly) on his electric accoustic simultaneous crazy guitar the distortion was VERY full and thick my g/f said "wow that sounds good" I didn't even have to ask her so it must have sounded very good. The crate vintage club or V series is a good working man series of tube amps. Better than the comparable fenders IMO. I played through 1 voodoo at quiet levels and one at moderate levels both had celestion cabs. The amp really opens up as you twist the master. They go from anemic to robust...kinda like some old marshalls.

Guys like Edward can make a garbage can sound great....
The Wolfgang is a great guitar....I do not care what it is made of, it works and is about the most comfy guitar I ever had played besides my old Kramer Pacer Deluxe.
Most good playing guitarists do not use fancy xxx superwood extra hype fantastic stuff, they use basic working stuff.
Why make it more difficult???
They worry about playing music, and likes to dabble around with fairly lowend stuff.

I think that there are 3 or 4 main woods that account for nearly all players: Ask, Alder, Mahogany and Maple. I suppose Basswood and Poplar need to be mentioned as they are used a lot. Other woods usually are just for esthetics in my experience.....and are often VERY MUCH like the main woods.

Fretboards are usually maple, rosewood or Ebony....once again I think other woods are there because they are other woods not because they are better.

I like Mahogany bodies with a maple cap myself.

Yeah...
I am still wondering about the bad slack on Basswood??
Maybe it is because I grew up in the 80's...all those "wankers" used lots of Basswood bodied guitars with maple necks!!!
The guitars are still around and still sounds quite nice, maybe it is because no one uses their ears..only what they read in magasines and at websites??

Rumors about Eddie and Peavey have been circulating for a while. I'm sure Eddie can get any company out there to make him what he wants, but the fact that he's been using his Wolfgangs and 5150's almost exclusively on this tour leads me to believe that he's not going anywhere. His contract with Peavey states that he can play whatever he wants on stage, so the fact that he actually uses the stuff he endorses means that he's probably happy with them.

Peavey has been more than patient in putting up with Ed over the past eight years. They were building great guitars and amps long before Eddie signed with them, and they will continue to do so if he goes.

many fine builders like Tom Anderson offer basswood guitars. The prob with Basswood is that during the late 80's and early 90's a lot of random woods were misidentified as basswood....this caused a decline in the popularity of an otherwise good wood.

this can't be right...then why would peavey even have him as an endorser if he can play anything he wants live...

Peavey customer service said so themselves. He is not required to even bring a single Peavey product when he plays live.

Amazing melodic guitarist and one hell of a shredder when the situation calls for it. Recently signed on with Seymour Duncan (was at thier NAMM booth). He also played the NAMM show at the galaxy and blew the audience away. Keep an eye on him...there's a lot coming from this guy.

Cheers.
