I almost got one as a blem. but I really am happy with my custom custom. I'd like to hear a more in depth review of yours if possible?

sure! Ok first off the CC and frankenpup are two very different beasts! The frank has a more open PAF type tone than the more compressed CC .
The frankenpup also has a great clean tone (think eddies tone on the clean part of light up the sky!) it has harmonics to die for and BIG CLEAR NOTES! This pup is extremely articulate for a 14k pup it actually performs more like a 9k or 10k pup! Btw i used the CC in my guitar for 6 years before trying the evh frank. the review here is what made me buy one. www.woodytone.com

i own a wolf ane i can assure you the ONLY THING the wolf bridge pu has in common with the frankenpup is the 14k resistance. Sound wise They are worlds apart. Like i said before this 14k pup performs like a vintage PAF.

... you are right about the compression... to me the Custom Custom is an idealized EMG 85 ... but passive of course. I think Ed going to the Steinberger was indicative that he wanted a more compressed sound... which is what he'd achieved from "1984" to the first Van Hagar album in '86 to '88.

... so basically... "pickupwise" ... to get a VH tone = SD Frankenstein pup for '78 - '83 VH... Custom Custom = from '84 up until the '90s EBMM era.

yes and many FORGET that from 1984 till the F.U.C.K
record eddie played his KRAMER 5150 guitar! The frankenstrat that this pup was in was pretty much retired (even though the frankenstrat is on the jump video he used the 5150 kramer for the recording) evh played the
kramer and steinberger.. The custom-custom is the pup in the kramer 5150 this is the pup that he had used as a model when dimarzio made his ebmm bridge pup.

what do you guys think for the best early vh tone would be, the frankie pup for 140 at the vh store or seymour's 78?

As far as 59's in the kramers i dont hear that? i hear a higher output,thicker pup like the DUNCAN CC.
Makes sense that evh needed a beefier toned pup to compensate for the OFR.

FWIW, i really think IMHO that the REAL MAGIC was and is EVH not the gear! To this day the guy can PLAY ONE NOTE and i know it is him!

I got mine two days ago from www.Thevhstore.Com mine is the non reliced one and it sounds a lot like the duncan 78
i replaced it with only hotter and to my ears better.
