Anyone else using a Spider Capo?

Just grabbed one of these today as I LOVE open and alternate tunings but hate messing around with my guitars strings and switching guitars several times for different songs....so I decided to try a spider capo. 40 bucks for a piece of plastic and rubber is pretty stupid but I won't go into that.

It is pretty cool BUT It is a real task to get it perfectly spaced and over each individual string after tightening it to the neck and even then there can be a lot of buzz and slightly dead open strings. I could see this being annoying on a dark stage and take longer than just switching guitars. Am I the only one with this issue ?

Anyways I found a cool tuning with it that is very different/exotic sounding.. (022002)

Any cool tunings you users have found ?

Re: Anyone else using a Spider Capo?

I've been a schubb user for so long that I haven't looked into any other brand or type in very long... I'll have to have a look at those thanks!

Re: Anyone else using a Spider Capo?

Those things always looked great. I may have to check one out because I, too, love alternate tunings, but hate the hassle of retuning.

Re: Anyone else using a Spider Capo?

But... all it does is change the open tuning, once you fret it's back to standard.... I guess I can see having an open chord then using your standard shapes above that.

I'm also a Shubb fan.

Yes true. I could see that being a big issue if you want to do open tunings with barre chords or slide chords. I'm not really looking for precise open tunings just anything that is new and sounds exotic so I'm happy. I actually bought it thinking "oh I can play more slide now but I didn't even think of that lol

I've been using one in concerts and switching then etc. The key is to tighten, thenafter you put a "finger " down, tigten again. Then it wont lift-stays secure.
Hope that helps!
btw-I saw the Steve Vai tour and they use 2 of them onstage..and I got the tuning! its [0,4,2,4,4,0]. Gorgeous! check it out... :-)

Re: Anyone else using a Spider Capo?

I've found lots of new sounds with it. If you put it on 2nd fret, and capo the A,D,G strings [faux DADGAD}, and play regular 1st position chords, you get all these new little sound twists..and with all the different tuning possibilities, I gotta long way to go before exhausting possibilities. The thing is its not really a "capo" in the function sense...more like a guitar expander
