Anyone ever find a Epi LP whose low E just sounds like crap?

Ive run into a few, sounds "out of tune", but it doesnt get better with tuning.
I was trying out a Mesa at the music store and they gave me Epi standard and that e just wouldnt come in. I gave it back, asked for another "fixed bridge/humbucker guitar, and the guys like "whats that"? while pointing to the epi, I said that low e sucks and he looked at me funny. Ive seen it on a few different ones and dont know why.

I hate those "think-they-know-all-but-are-in-fact-only-dumbass" salespersons... most of them dont even know the "basics" of a good sounding guitar, or they're acting like clowns only to sell more stuff and screw honest people with hard-earned money.

I think I have too much integrity to become a salesperson.

Its not an issue only with Epiphones and many guitars new and used have bridges that need set-ups and/or fresh strings to get then ringing properly. For whatever reason, the low E string is the easiest to hear a bad set-up on.

Next time, ask for a guitar that has a properly intonated bridge. That sounds better than "the low E sucks" and you will get a better response from the salesperson.

it could be the strings too, sometimes too low tension, or a certain person's playing style can push the string too hard or have some other adverse effect on the actual pitch perception

It's either a nut that needs reslotted, out of intonation, a saddle that needs deburred, or a bad string. Both Gibson and Epiphones need a pro setup before they're worthy of playing. Some stores offer it for free....some for around $45. I wonder if free first setups are offered by Gibson and Epiphone? Anyone know?
