Anyone ever try a JB with Alnico 6 Magnet?

I've read in a thread on here that an Alnico 6 magnet will tame some highs and add bass, for the most part. This sounds like it would work well for a JB, no?

Has anyone tried it? I did some searches, but came up with nothing. I'm thinking about giving it a shot.

Thoughts?

I think Zhangliqun is the only person here that has extensive experience with a6. The most common magnet swap with the JB is to a2.

Thanks. Any idea of where to get Alnico 6? Allstar magnetics doesn't have them. Maybe I'll contact zhangliqun.

How does A2 affect the JB?

I have two JB Trembuckers here, and I want to swap magnets with one. I want to try to tighten up the lows, and round out the highs. That's why I'm asking about A6.

A8 will do both and give you more output and some lower mid girth to boot. I did that with a duncan designed JB.

Zhang is your man for the A6...if you haven't already, search the forum you should find some posts by him about it's tonal effects.

have you thought of the c5? it's very tight and powerful. i like it a lot, but use the c2 because my guitar is intrisically bright. to me, it's perfect for metal, rock, or blues. it's a really great pickup.

Thanks Chill,

I thought about the A8. Added lower mid girth sounds great to me. But I saw that the A6 has less highs than the A8, so I figured it would be better for a JB.

How much hotter is A8 compared to A5, A6, & Ceramic 5/8? I don't want it TOO hot.

Thanks again.

I am buying either a Custom, or C5. And I intend on swapping around magnets with that pickup as well. So I'll be able to hear all 3, and maybe even try a A6/A8 too.

Thanks man.
