Anyone familiar with Reverand guitars?

I was checking out some demo's at You Tube of the Roundhouse HB and the Warhawk HB models and I must say these guitars seem like a great bang for the buck. Love what the bass contour knob does for the overall tones. Makes for some very versatile sounds. Anyone own or have tried either of these models?

Re: Anyone familiar with Reverand guitars?

I own 2 reverends, and that's all I own anymore. They are great guitars. I owned a tele ,a strat , a les paul, a 335, and a Heritage. that was up until just 2 month's ago. I had a reverend Slingshot for 5 years, and still own, and love. Then I bought a Rev. Buckshot( which is sort of like a tele and a Gretsch). That was 3 months ago. I like the 2 Reverends so much, I did'nt play the other guitars at all, so I sold them all. All I can say is, go play some Reverends, and see if they grab you like that. Many who play them think the same thing. The necks are what I like the best. They sound great too!

Hey, thanks! Sounds encouraging. How would you describe the neck profiles? So far the neck shapes that work best for me is the neck on my LP Studio, which I think is the 50's profile (a bit wider and fatter than the slim 60's neck) and the neck on my '96 MIA Strat.

Mike, You may find the necks to your liking. They are Kalamazoo inspired 24 and 3/4" scale necks. You should try some yourself to see if their for you too. Go to the Reverend site and go on the forum. You will find many very happy people on there. Good Luck! Let us know how it goes.

..........yeah and when it's time to clean them you just whip out a bottle of Windex and spray 'er down!

Re: Anyone familiar with Reverand guitars?

I think Scott might have a reverand, not sure though.

Re: Anyone familiar with Reverand guitars?

They stopped making 'em in the US, are the imports as good? They are very kool lookin' axes but I'm a total LP player now. I LOVE my Revered Hellhound amp...it kills!

The imports are very good. I have a friend who paid $1,759.00 on a top of the line Fender, and he likes my Rev. better. I paid $603.00 inc. tax & a great case, out the door. It's a TKL case, and a top one at that! You just have to play one. I bought mine at Elderly instruments in Lansing. They have a certain mojo that can't be explained! Mines more Fender like(bolt on neck), but they make gibson set neck styles too, Which sounds like more of what your looking for.

Re: Anyone familiar with Reverand guitars?

My take (cut and pasted from previous):

I love the bolt-ons. I'm not a huge fan of his choice of ceramic pickups, so the model I chose was the alnico revtron equipped Flatroc. It's like a cool halfway point between a tele and a gretsch.

But across the board, I like every bolt on Rev I've tried. The necks are great, and they feel and sound much nicer than their price point would suggest. If I lived in the states, I'd be harvesting as many s/h ones as I could off ebay.

The new set necks leave me a bit cold, though. Especially as you can get a secondhand SG or LP jr/special for similar prices as a new set-neck reverend. Whereas the bolt ons seem to transcend their price, the set-necks just look and sound 'epiphone' to me. The exception to this is the volcano, which sounds great.

Another really cool thing about the Revs is the bass contour control. It's a bass roll-off pot that works really well for getting a single coil tone from a humbucker. Makes for a very versatile guitar, and I love how you can dial in just a touch.

...I'll update by saying that my flatroc has crept up on me in recent months and is now my main guitar for two of the bands I play in. It's awesome. I'd love to get a buckshot and leave my tele at home...

Where is it!? I'm going to Edmonton next week on a road trip and would love to have a chance to check out some of those guitars.

Re: Anyone familiar with Reverand guitars?

Very cool guitar. I'm GASing for the Ron Ashton signature or anything else they make with P90s...

Re: Anyone familiar with Reverand guitars?

I've actually GASed for more than one of them quite a few times, even to the point where I'd ask my favorite local deal to also consider bringing Reverends as well but, as it seems he wasn't all that impressed with them, (plus, he had recently acquired the Michael Kelly dealership and wasn't looking for more...) dunno.

I'd still be quite interested in trying them out regardless, especially their Jetstream HB with the Wilkinson (now discontinued unfortunately...) and their Volcano.
I just get really good vibes from both of them...

Re: Anyone familiar with Reverand guitars?

I've tried the warhawk and roundhouse, and for the prices I see some of 'em sell for new I wouldn't call 'em good bang for the buck. On the used market that may be a different story. They just felt and played like fairly cheap guitars to me.... But I am a big fan of cheap guitars, I just don't see me slingin' what they are asking for the new ones at my local shop.

Rock On!
