Anyone Get a Höfner "Club" Yet?

One of these:

MF has them on closeout for $299 (MSRP $999), which on Labor Day and with eBates should work out to around $240.

I believe the pickups are the regular German-made "Diamond" mini-humbuckers, which I like a lot on my Höfner "Colorama Custom," though they are a royal pain to adjust for height.

Proportions and balance look insanely off on this, so I'm asking about neck dive, etc.

[I wish like crazy this deal was a bass!]

Another thing on those Hofners that is usually "off" is the intonation. The saddles are short lengths of fret wire sitting in grooves across the wooden portion of the bridge. Choice of four settings. All slightly out.

If it really matters, you can actually get those to be pretty precise if you want to get into some filing and fitting.

For the most part, "intonation" is a badly misunderstood concept and there is probably a more significant problem elsewhere on the typical guitar that the player is overlooking. The bridge adjustment is only part of the picture.

Besides, you can never really tell how a given bridge is going to work out. I got a reissue Gretsch "Tennessee Rose" with that silver weenie bridge, which by all rights should be hopeless to adjust for intonation, but somehow it gets extremely close. Seems impossible, but it does. :scratchch

if it's a Les Paul-shaped version of their current Beatle basses i don't want one.

A friend of mine has a vintage Paul McCartney violin style Hofner bass and it's a really cool and unique piece. That guitar looks pretty interesting!
