Anyone Good At Setups?

I'm looking for a pro here. I have a few guitars which need the following:

Bone Nuts Cut
Truss Rod/Action Tweaks
Intonation tweaks

And one that needs a bit of wiring readjusted (it's wired but a few wires need to be swapped around on the pickup selecter)

Anyone do these? If so, how much? I'll pay shipping both ways.

I'm sick of Central Upstate, NY and their guitar techs. The guy I usually resort to going to is just absurd.. He knows less than me about proper set ups. And about cutting nuts? Ha. Sloppy as hell. I'd rather pay a bit more and get something halfway decent.Whenever I call someplace and mention 'bone nut' I get the "well..ahh.. they have synthetic material that we can order precut" or "Well, we can do those, but they're pricey so we usually don't." (always said in the 'bug off' type tone).

Someone help?

I'd preffer someone with a business and reputation which can be backed.

Shipping a guitar to be set up? That's a risky prospect the way most shipping company handle packages...

Perhaps try and find a tech within a larger radius from where you live? Just my $.02

Re: Anyone Good At Setups?

first i'd suggest going with a graphite nut rather than bone - but that's just me
one thing to consider is that, shipping a guitar after a setup may change the setup a bit - not drastically
but when i ship my guitars, they usually arrive jsut as i set them up, but if a guitar was set up in 90 degree dry arizona and then shipping to cold rainy oregon, the setup might neet a little tweaking when it arrives

cheers

Re: Anyone Good At Setups?

one thing i, in particular have against bone nuts is that they smell like dead meat when you sand them - absolutely disgusting

Re: Anyone Good At Setups?

Can anyone recommend a good tech in the SF Bay Area? Recommendations for guitar techs and amp techs. Torres Engineering any good? I think I read they were in San Mateo.

Re: Anyone Good At Setups?

everything they make sounds like srv

but I'd imagine they're good techs

they DO make their own guitars & amps after all
