Anyone have a wiring diagram for a JB/Jazz set with one volume and 3-way toggle?

Hey everyone, I'm new here, so I just thought I'd briefly introduce myself.

I bought a used Music Man Sub1 a few months ago, and the original owner had put in a JB/Jazz set. It sounds great, I really love these pickups. The only problem was that he didn't do the best wiring job so eventually it started having problems. It was actually my fault because while looking at the wiring I accidentally pulled a wire loose haha. But it's still messy looking so I'm just gonna rewire it to clean it up. This is actually good because I'll have experience with this kind of thing if I ever want to change pickups in any other guitars.

So does anyone have a wiring diagram for a JB/Jazz set? Specifically, it will be a JB in the bridge and Jazz in the neck (I think it's a pretty common combo). It will have the stock 3-way toggle and a single 500k volume pot. I need the positions on the toggle to be bridge humbucker when the toggle faces down, both the bridge and the neck when the toggle is in the middle, and the neck humbucker when the toggle is facing up.

I have a question though. When you are running two full humbuckers together, are they usually run series or parallel? I thought parallel was used for coil splitting and series for everything else, but I'm probably wrong haha.

If this is a frequently asked for diagram, could anyone give me a link to it? I used the search feature but I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks in advance, any and all help is appreciated!

It doesn't get much simpler than this. Each humbucker is wired series for internal wiring; they are in parallel with each other when they're both on. You can usually tell which tab on the switch needs to be wired to which pickup by looking at it, because most 3-way toggle switches are open enough for you to see where the contacts go.

Yeah, I'm a huge Petrucci and Music Man fan haha. I'm guessing you're on there too?

Thanks man, I'm going to do this tonight so I can play it when my friends and I jam tomorrow!

Yep! I'm a Music Man player. I prefer Silhouette Specials.

Welcome to the Duncan board!

Thanks! I'd love to own a Silhouette Special someday, I really want an EBMM with single coils.

Update on the wiring: I wired it according to the schematic but there is one problem: I don't know where to connect the wire going from the "top" of the pickup switch to the volume pot. I posted a thread on the Ernie Ball forum asking what specific toggle switch is used in EBMM instruments. On the schematic, the wire is coming out of a place that doesn't seem to be present on the actual switch.

Re: Anyone have a wiring diagram for a JB/Jazz set with one volume and 3-way toggle?

On the Seymour Duncan diagram, the wire from the top of the switch is actually the output of the switch, which is essentially the output of whichever pickup(s) you've selected. This wire goes to the input or "top" of the volume pot -- at the opposite end from the ground.

Re: Anyone have a wiring diagram for a JB/Jazz set with one volume and 3-way toggle?

That's the problem though. The switch doesn't look like it has an output. Does it look the same as the holes you put the other wires through?

As for the volume pot, I thought you just solder the wires anywhere on the bottom, I didn't know you had to put it on a specific place. So does that mean that where wires are placed together on the diagram, I have to put them together in those places on the actual pot?

Anywhere on the back of the pot is the same.
