anyone have EL34's in their single, dual, triple rectifiers?

Pink Unicorn Horsey has EL34's in his Single Rec, and last I checked he's quite happy with it. I got to see his band live last month, and his tone was fantastic.

It'll sound like an EL34 with sag. JTM45s have tube rectifiers in them.

Yup, EL-34s in the Single Rec. A major improvement over the 6L6s, to my ears. Can't seem myself going with the old configuration anytime soon—or at all, really.

I didn't have EL34s, but I went with JJ 6V6s tubes in my recto. I wouldn't limit yourself solely to the idea of EL's. That thing sounded so huge, warm, and raw once I made the switch to the 6V6s. It was so organic sounding that I thought that granola was going to shoot out the speaker cabs while foliage sprouted out of it. It was pure hormone-free, free range beef! It still retained the heaviness, it just lost some of the fizz and hi-fi-ness(?) of the standard recto sound. It isn't that I didn't like my recto before, but it was a whole 'nother beast with the new tubes. I loved it. Too bad I had to sell it...

6V6, not 6L6?

What EL34 are you using PUH?

Mesa-branded. They're grrrrrrrreat!

Yup. JJ6V6's. Euro tubes has a little description, here. Scroll down just a bit to get full info on the 6V6 swap.

It was a pretty rockin' set up. One of my favorite amp tones to date.

Learn something new every day. The thing I like so much about the EL-34s is the "free range beef" organic-ness. I wonder if I'd like these even more. Thanks for the linky!

I like what he says here:

The Single Rec's that are switchable from 6L6 to EL34 mode can also use pairs of 6V6's, KT77's, KT66's and KT88's for a lot a tonal variations. The bias does not have to be modded and made adjustable if the proper grades of tubes are used.

I used to have a Rectoverb (Single Rec with reverb) and ran EL34s with it. I liked it a lot better than 6L6s... not as hard and more musical-sounding.

I had el 34's when I had my dual rectifier, I loved them. Took away a lot of the buzzieness and really tightened up the bass and added some nice mids. To me, it took away from the typical nu metal type tone that the recto is kind of dragged into. Strapping young lad exclusively uses 34's in their rectos if you want to check out some of their tones
