-tried in bridge position in basswood schecter. It's really not as hot as you'd think... Best palm mute chunk ever. A bit icepicky on the highs. Not so mid heavy like a Duncan Distortion, more of a smooth, biting distortion.
Not a bad pickup, cleans aren't horrible either. Nice for metal, but not for me.

I use a Real Bill lawrence XL-500 and I really like it. Though it is a higher output pickup, it is very versatile and quite.

I played a Charvel with Live Wire Metals for a few hours, and found it to be everything it claims to be. A kick ass metal pickup. Great in the bridge, sucks nuts in the neck. If you need anything besides full on, rip your head off metal, look elsewhere. However, if you want a pup that will feed back clean, check it out.

I use Dimes in both of my SGs and that's exactly how they sound!
It really isn't a super hot pickup like most people would think, but it's got more of a 'crunch' and really just smushes your sound together.
The cleans are nice, too; it's got a cool little twang.

Dime is definately a great metal pup, but it does have a different voice than a distortion or JB. I personally like the JB, have to try a distortion, and liked the Dime a lot but just wanted something different. (maybe it was a bit too icepicky for me) Great pup though.

Ditto on the Invader, it just sounds huge and fat. It's like taking an EQ and maxing the bass and mids, so much thicker than anything else. Cleans are "clunky" sounding on it for some reason. Leads are great, IMO, very full sounding, but it might be a little too loose if you want super precise notes.

I would have to put in my 2 cents on the invader. I find the bass to overwhelm the other areas of the sound. It has a good rhythm-type sound, but I think as far as fast aggressive metal (like slayer and pantera) there's just too much bass. i think i might be ordering some of the metal livewires for the ibanez i'm about to purchase.

Have a Kramer with an X2N. I agree that it is simply uncalled for, but sounds good. It pimp slaps my Fender pro-jr. into next week - so if you are into pre-amp tube abuse (and replacement) go ahead. But I have a 7 to 8 year old Peavey solid-state that it doesn't do a thing for...
Malmsteen runs Dimarzio HS-3's with an old overdrive into old Marshalls. Eric Johnson does Split HS-2's! The George Lynch Screamin' Demon isn't all that hot either. Too much juice from the pup plus an amp out of control (and maybe a pedal or two!) just makes farty noises, not tone. It's too easy to fuzz from the amp. Go mid/low power for a better tone.

I had an X-2N that I used in the Body of a Charvel Star with a Boogie MArk IIC in the '80's. The nice thing about the X-2N was it allowed for a good crunch tone in the rythm channel wihtout an overdrive or distortion box in front. The X-2N sounded surprisingly bright and clear for all its power.

I've used the X2N and it's like an icepick in the forehead. it rocks but it's one brutal pickup.
