I have played several Teles and Strats equipped with Fralins. The BLues Specials are really great pickups if you are looking for a vintage type of tone. As far as the HB go............... I think Duncans smoke all comers. Depending what type of sound you are looking for I think SD offers a great variety of pickup types to accomodate just about any style of playing. When it comse to SC I think Fralins are great, but I really did not like any of the Humbuckers I played. For me I would probably use some Antiquity Duncans before I used Fralins though. I have a set of Texas Hots in a Strat and they sound Killer. I am rebuilding another Strat (hopefully will be done by the end of January) I will be putting a set of Surfers in this one!
Lindy is a big fan of the cleaner vintage tones....I have a set of US RI pickups that he rewound back in '85 that are the best Strat pickups I've ever used-they're still in the Strat after trying a lot of other makes.
I've got a Fralin Blues Special in the neck of my Tele and it's an amazing pup. More strat like than tele like in the neck, beautiful cleans and roars with gain without getting muddy.
Well, I just got the sp43 (neck with 9400 turns ~ 10k DC) and sp42 (middle with 8100 turns reverse). Both of them will be using with the invader custom shop. HEHE, must be a crazy set.
I've got a pair of blues specials in my strat, I'm gonna be swappin out the bridge pickup with one pretty soon too. Great pickups, my favorite single coils by far.
