anyone know about alnico 8 magnets?

Re: anyone know about alnico 8 magnets?

Allstar Magnetics (www.allstarmagnetics.com) has 'em. I'll be putting an order in tomorrow when the guy gets back to me with the quote.

Anybody know who might make A6 and 7 bar mags? I asked Allstar and they could have a big batch made (300 lbs.) but they didn't know who had them in stock offhand.

Re: anyone know about alnico 8 magnets?

I will. He says he has them in stock so there shouldn't be a 5-week wait.

I think I probably won't like these magnets but I like to have all kinds on hand for various experiments. If I don't like 'em, there could still be an application for them later on that I will like them for.

Any word on A6 and A7?

Re: anyone know about alnico 8 magnets?

I have two i can sell without the 35 day wait!
but will not sell for $6
i would rather take offers

Re: anyone know about alnico 8 magnets?

On further investigation, there apparently is no Alnico 7. There is an Alnico 5-7 and an Alnico 6 but no A7. At least as far as I've been able to research.

I'm going to have a 45-day wait but I'll live.

What is the EQ curve on A8 anyway, especially compared to A5?

more mids than a 5 and a touch more presence and a cool violin type effect to the lead tone
really the custom 5 sounds dull and flat compared to the custom 8 version
i liken the alnico 8 with some of the ceramics tone and some of the II's town and a touch of the 5's tone

As i imagine the custom8 , very powerfull and windy like the Custom , very high end presence ( like "sheen" ) and not much pick attack ; that sound like a violin !
Well if it is that , it's not for me .

Sounds like it'll work for me -- in certain rigs, the A5 scoop works great but otherwise that's A5's weakness. A8 sounds like the new and improved A5. Will be trying it in my Jon Moore when they come in.

I assume this is also a significantly stronger magnet than 5. Have you noticed any problems with string pull/sustain reduction?

they are a lot like a ceramic in strength and they are quieter than alnico 5 as well
I really think this custom 8 "ANNIHILATOR" would take off if seymour puts it in production
it is so much nicer than the custom 5 :burnout:
