anyone know how that peavey transtube technolgy matches up with a real tube amp? they seem pretty nice on paper. how do they hold up in person?

Re: anyone know about transtube tech?

They are def one of the better sounding SS alternatives out there. I put some time into several of the TT models a few months back..XXLs, Bandits, etc, as well as Marshall MG's, Randalls, etc.

I wouldn't say they sound as good/warm as tubes by any means, and they certainly don't have the response/dynamics of tubes, but they are a decent lower cost alternative. Better than many of the lower priced digital modeling amps, IMO.

thanks! gonna head on over to guitar center or sam ash one of these days and try out some amps. guess those are gonna be on my list :)

Re: anyone know about transtube tech?

I'd take the XXL over a ton of tube amps out these days, and at those prices...daymn!

Ask Theodie, he used to have one, I believe he liked it better than his JCM900!

Re: anyone know about transtube tech?

I happen to like my Peavey Bandit 112. The latest version of it is even better. I just don't use an amp that often, though.

Would I like to have a good tube amp? Sure. Will I spend the money to get one? Not hardly.

Usually, I play through my POD direct to the mixer.

Plus, I approach SS amps and modelers differently that most tone hounds: I just try to get a sound I like. I don't really care if it is a "true" classic Marshall or Fender amp. What I DO care about is whether I like the sound I can get. The answer, of course, is "yes."
